SIGN UP FOR AMANA TEXT ALERTS
At Amana, we recognize and value the importance of timely information from schools. In an effort to better communicate school news and updates with parents we have signed up with Remind 101. This free service allows Amana to send text "blasts" to all subscribers.

Simply follow the directions below and you will
automatically receive any messages sent to the Amana Academy community. This is a closed system. We will not have access to each others' cell phone numbers. You will not be able to text back. Our hope is to use the service to give updates and reminders regarding delayed openings, school schedule changes, report card distribution dates, conference dates and important community events.

It is our sincere desire that this tool will make it easier for you to do all the many things that are demanded of you as a parent and yet still keep you connected and up-to date with Amana. Please email info@amanaacademy.org with any questions or feedback.

To sign up to receive text alerts, simply text @amana to 404.941.8355.  This is a voluntary service, and you can opt out at any time.
ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL REMINDERS - SAFETY FIRST!
We appreciate your patience as we work through the first week of morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.  We know that the first couple days of carpool took longer than any of us would have liked, and we ask for your continued patience as we iron out some of the details of the process.  We are confident that it will start to flow much more smoothly and efficiently in the coming days.  Please know that the safety of your children is the driving force behind these procedures - we want to get them to and from the building as safely and as quickly as possible.

Here are some ways you can help us:

  1. Please review with your child their carpool number. We know from experience that once students memorize their number, they quickly respond to it when it is called out and shown on the projector screen inside.
  2.  In the morning, please use the carpool line instead of escorting your child.  With as many cars as we have going through the parking lot, it is much safer and more efficient if you use the carpool line.  We have staff members to assist your children as they exit the vehicles and head into the building.  Click here for a traffic-flow diagram.
  3.  If you are picking up Middle School children with Elementary School siblings, in the afternoon you must loop around the rear of the building (via Satay House).  This is different from last year. Also, please do not arrive before 3:15 PM, because middle school students are not dismissed from class until 3:15 PM.  This gives us time to get the elementary students who do not have older siblings cleared out of the cafeteria prior to the middle school students arriving.
  4.  Make RIGHT TURNS ONLY when exiting onto Main Street or Roswell Street, so that carpool can keep moving behind you.

Again, we will work to improve the process inside to move things along faster.  Please CLICK HERE to review the most updated version of the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up procedures.  These procedures are a result of detailed discussions with our Administration, our Alpharetta Police Offiers and our property manager.  Our primary concern is your child's safety.

LAST DAY TO ESCORT YOUR CHILDREN TO CLASS - AUGUST 16
We hope you've all had a wonderful start to school, and that your children are settling into a comfortable routine.  We understand that for some students, especially the little ones in the early Elementary grades, it can be difficult let go of Mom or Dad's hand in the morning (and vice-versa).  Please note that this coming Friday, August 16, will be the last day that parents will be permitted to escort their children into the cafeteria or to the classroom in the morning.  It is important for the students to establish routines with their peers and their teachers, and to learn to navigate the hallways on their own.  You children are in good hands - we will make sure that they get to the right table in the cafeteria, and to the correct classroom when it's time.  We have teachers and staff stationed throughout the halls to direct traffic and to make sure the little ones get where they're going safely.
LATE ARRIVING STUDENTS WILL BE MARKED TARDY
Beginning Monday, August 19, any middle school student who is not in their classroom at 7:45 AM, and any elementary school student not in their classroom by 8:00 AM, will be considered late and be marked tardy.
AMANA BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB

The Birthday Book Club is a great way to honor your child's birthday!  Member students' birthdays  are commemorated with a book that will be kept in the Amana school library for all students to enjoy. Each selected birthday book will have a nameplate with the student's name and birthday. These librarian-selected Birthday Books will be available for $20 each on Curriculum Nights, August 27-29, and on September 6 for Grandparents' Day. On September 23 the Birthday Book Club participants will come together to celebrate their birthdays and the honored student will be the first to check out his or her birthday book before it is placed in the library permanent collection.   Please contact Ms. Copeland, our Instructional Media Specialist, via email at hcopeland@amanaacademy.org for more information.
TECHNOLOGY DONATIONS NEEDED

Please consider donating your gently-used Tablet or SmartPhone to Amana for student technology use. These devices will be loaded with fun, educational apps to be used in the classrooms for new material instruction, curriculum support as well as content reinforcement. Many schools are using similar one-to-one or Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) programs and this is one way Amana Academy can offer this wonderful, new learning technique to our students. All donations are tax-deductible.

Our first collection of these devices will be the week of September 3-6 in the Media Center. Please feel free to contact Helen Copeland hcopeland@amanaacademy.org) with any questions about the program.
