Message From Your Partners in Education (PIE) President

 

This time of year, we often evaluate the time that has passed by asking questions like, what have we done? What could have been done better? What opportunities were missed?  We also look forward to the time to come by asking ourselves, what grand new experiences are awaiting us?  How do we live our lives better?  What changes can we make?

As a parent and as a member of the Amana community, each one of us has the mandate to evaluate and ask these questions of ourselves and our families.  Given the recent tragedy, we realize once again how precious life is and how quickly our trajectory can change.

It is with this reflection and awareness that PIE challenges you to welcome the new year with open arms, open hearts, with a sense of "carpe diem!"   

 

On behalf of the Amana Partners in Education, we thank you for all the support and encouragement you have given our students, our teachers, our community this past year.  Your devotion to your family is reflected in your children and in turn, that goodness spreads through every classroom at Amana.

Amana "Copy Room Central" Volunteers Needed:

Thanks to everyone who has helped get our new Copy Center going.  It has been a great success!  There are still plenty of opportunities to volunteer and training will be provided.  This is a great volunteer opportunity because schedules are flexible and the shifts are short, so please sign up for one of the available shifts by clicking on the following link: Copy Room Calendar.

A Lunch centerpeice 2012 Winter Wonderland Teacher Appreciation Luncheon

To show appreciation for the endless time, dedication and passion our teachers and staff put in to nurturing our children each and everyday, the Amana Crew Parents, led by our Crew Parent Coordinator, Carrie Dhoulfikhar, hosted a sumptuous luncheon in the new faculty lounge last Friday, December 14th.  We thank all of our parents for donating their time and efforts as well as Restorante Alfreso for their Teachers Lunch 2012wonderful cuisine!  Our faculty and staff were overjoyed when they saw all the passion our parents displayed with their generous contributions.  Because of parents such as you, Amana continues to build strong, supportive partnerships with it's teachers.  Thank you! 

    

PIE Recognizes Amana's Governing Board 

On December 15th, during the monthly Governing Board meeting, your PIE reached out to show appreciation to our Governing Board members for all of the time and effort they put into the betterment of our school.  Words of appreciation, a breakfast and a few gifts is not Board Appreciationenough to show appreciation for the efforts these dedicated Board members (parents!) make outside their busy lives/jobs on behalf of our school, but we hope this small gesture of appreciation shows them that we greatly value all the work they do.   

 

Thank you, thank you, thank you to our Amana Academy Governing Board members: Maher Budier, Kristina Leidner, Craig Dean, Pam Holloway, Calvin Stamps, Nada Diab, Andrea Cooper Gatewood, Shuaib Hanif and Abdul Galayini!

   

Volunteer of the Month - December 2012

Amana Academy PIE congratulates the following "dads" for their dedication in coaching students in after school sports:  Curtis Wilson and Samuel Milton

Do you know a special volunteer that you would nominate as the next Volunteer of the Month?  If so, please submit their name via the online  VOM Nomination Form.  Once a month, our PIE Volunteer Support Coordinator will process the nominations and select the best and most deserving candidate for recognition at the monthly PIE General Assembly Meeting. 

By nominating a fellow parent for the Volunteer of Month award, they will receive a certificate of appreciation and a gift that demonstrates Amana's thanks for doing such a great job!  Along with these gifts, the VOM's name will be displayed on the Amana website and on the Amana News TV broadcast.

 

You can nominate any person that is not serving as a PIE Executive Board member or PIE Chairperson. This can be anyone you feel has really made a difference in the school by acts of kindness and/or volunteer support that goes above and beyond the norm. 

Please take the time to speak up on behalf of our Amana volunteers and nominate someone you know that has made such a difference in the lives of so many!
