Coach Appreciation Week
Our coaches are an essential element of our swimming routine. Despite their importance, it is easy to take them for granted and forget to thank them for their efforts. For this reason Pacific Masters Swimming established Coach Appreciation Week designated as the week beginning with the first Sunday in May. This year the Annual Pacific Masters Coach Appreciation Week will begin on May 3rd.
While we encourage our members to regularly thank their coaches, during Coach Appreciation Week we hope swimmers and clubs will make an extra effort to show their appreciation. Here are some ideas:
For individuals:
- A card or email telling the coach how his/her instruction helped you accomplish a goal.
- A gift card or certificate for coffee, ice cream, a movie, a meal, or a small present which you think your coach will enjoy.
For clubs:
- A breakfast, lunch or dinner to honor the coach.
- A certificate for a weekend away or a special meal with his/her partner.

Bay Area Senior Games
Sunday, May 17
The swimming competition in the Senior Games will be held at Avery Aquatic Center at Stanford. There are 14 events and this meet usually only has a few heats of each one. The Senior Games are for athletes 50 years old and older and includes 19 different sporting events. This is a great event for swimmers who haven't swum in a meet before as it is a relaxed meet with most swimmers coming from health clubs rather than masters teams. Registration closes on May 8.

June Open Water events
Saturday, June 6: Lake Berryessa One & Two Mile
The DAM Lake Berryessa swim is a classic in its 32nd run! The 2015 swim will continue to be held at the new venue - Steele Canyon Campground, near the junction of highways 128 and 121. This venue features plenty of off-street parking and campsites are available for the weekend. The water is clean and comfortable and the weather is, more often than not, fine! registration entry form website
Saturday & Sunday, June 13-14: Lake Del Valle This year, the Lake Del Valle event will start on Saturday with a 5K/10K. The swims will run at the same time. You have to pre-register for the 10K and be able to meet the 3 ½ hour cut off time to swim the event. On Sunday, the 1 mile and the 2.5K will be held. If you're new to open water swimming, try the 1 mile swim which is run first before the 2.5K. For a good workout, do both. There is plenty of parking. It's a good place to bring the kids because they have a roped off swimming area. Post event snacks are provided. The 10k and the 1 mile swims are national championship races. |
