Greetings!

 

Convention:

Thirty Pacific Masters swimmers  traveled to Garden Grove to participate in the United States Masters Swimming Annual Convention.

 

There was an election of officers - President Nadine Day was re-elected for a second term. Michael Moore (USF) was re-elected Oceana Zone Chair (Pacific and Hawaii LMSCs).The USMS 2013 Coach of the Year is Whitney Hedgepeth of Longhorn Aquatics.

 

Pacific Masters volunteers who were awarded the Dorothy Donnelly Service Award were Kildine Harms (Walnut Creek), Phyllis Quinn (The Olympic Club) and John Morales (Santa Rosa Masters).

 

The Kerry O'Brien Coaches Award (which embies the passion, dedication and heart coaches bring to the pool deck) was presented to Marcia Benjamin (MEMO), Mike Kazek (Cal Maritime Academy) and Tom Reudy (SMAC).

 

A copy of Rob Butcher (Executive Director of USMS) address to the House of Delegates is on-line.

 

Tri-Valley Masters was awarded the >6/9< 2015 USMS Open Water Championships and the One Mile National Championship. Davis Aquatic Masters was awarded the 300/6000 Postal.

 

All of the US Masters Swimming Convention's meeting minutes are on-line. Soon to be on line are videos of the convention workshops.

 

 

Growth:

Pacific Masters has for the second straight year reached the 11,000 member total and we broke last years record number of swimmers. Pacific now has 11,142 members. Thanks to the coaches who coach us and the swimmers who encourage our friends to consider and participate in Masters swimming.

 

Service Awards

 Pacific Masters honors its volunteers and members with its service awards. The 2013 service awards will be  presented at this years November annual meeting.The four awards include The Contributor of the Year;  The Appreciation Award, Distinguished Service award and the Personal Achievement award. The awards are normally chosen at the October meeting and the award that will be made at the annual meeting. Please feel free to send your nomination to any member of the executive committee, the chairman, the admin vice chair or the registrar.

End of Year Fee Discount

The membership in Pacific Masters/United States Masters Swimming is from 1 January to 31 December. For those who join in September or October, the membership fee drops from $48.00 to $38.00

Richmond Plunge
4th Annual Swim for Kids
This Sunday 
The Richmond Plunge Masters run this open water swim to benefit the USA Sailfish Swim team. Proceeds will be used for coaching, equipment, pool fees and swimming scholarships for inner-city  Richmond youths.
 
Swimmers have their choice of the 1/2 Mile, 1 Mile and 2 Mile events. The date is 28 September .
You can only deck enter now.
Sacramento Pentathlon 
The Sacramento Pentathlon will be held at the Schaal Aquatic Center on the UC Davis Campus, Davis, California. The meet will be on Sunday  6 October. The events are all the 50s, plus the 100 IM.

2 x 1 Lake Del Valle 
The results of the Manatees  Lake Del Valle 2 x 1 Open Water Swim have been posted. Thank to Bob and Rebecca of the Manatee who organized and ran the meet. It was a fun meet, with the meet being over before the rains of the last day of summer came.

Pacific Masters
Short Course Meters Championships 
The 2013 Pacific Masters Short Course Meters Championships are being organized by the Walnut Creek Masters and will be contested 11 - 13 October at Heather Farms.
 
This has always been a great meet. It is not too large, but the competition is always there. This is a pre-entered meet so you must enter on line by 2 October. (there is also an entry deadline for mail entries).

USMS Coaches Certification
Level 3 

PacMasters has a Level 3 course offering in Novato on Saturday, September 28th. You'll need to have Level 2 certification in order to attend this course. Class will run 9am-4pm at the College of Marin Indian Valley Campus, 1800 Ignacio Blvd, Novato. 

 

Participants will also be able to attend a Masters workout with the Marin Pirate Masters team from 7-8:30am that morning. More information on the course including registration can be found on the USMS website. Scholarships are available to Masters coaches of Masters teams registered under Pacific Masters (coaches must also be USMS registered). 2014 PacMasters 
Schedule 

The preliminary Pacific Masters local meets are posted. The PacMasters Long Course Championships will be held in San Mateo 27-29 June. Not all of the meets have been scheduled and there still could be some changes as we get closer to the day of the events.
