2011

2001- 2010

Greetings!

We are in the dog days of summer. In ancient Rome, the dog days were from about 23 July to 23 August. It was determined by the rising of Sirius, the dog star - Sirius rose about the same time as sunrise. Due to the procession of the equinoxes, this no longer happens at that time. The Old Farmers Almanac listed the traditional period of the Dog Days now as 3 July through 11 August. These are also the days of the year with the least rainfall in the Northern Hemisphere.

Besides being the dog days, it is also the time of the best open water swimming in the area. Besides the Pac Masters Open Water season, our neighboring LMSCs also have great open water events. Some of our clubs also have their own open water events. It is the time to enjoy swimming in our lakes, rivers and ocean.

The community college system in California offers some of the best educational bargains in the nation. There are many classes that you can take for less than the cost of the text book (I think this means that community college fees are cheap and college textbooks are expensive). There are many open classes and the education opportunities are great. Contact your nearest community college to see what they have to offer (In the interest of full disclosure, I work for a community college district).
