2011

2001- 2010

Greetings!

This upcoming week, many members of PacMasters management will be traveling to Greensboro, NC for the annual United States Masters Swimming Convention. The Pacific Masters office will be open for limited service Tuesday through Friday as Nancy attends the national convention.  There will be rules to be voted on, budgets to approve and and friends to meet.

For those who wish to compete in the 5k/10k postal, just a reminder that you must swim it by Tuesday 15 September. For those who wish the milder, kinder 3000/6000 yard postal, you can start swimming it on 15 September.

Enjoy the warm weather.

Fun, Fitness & Competition

Kind regards,

-michael

Whiskeytown Open Water
Redding Swim Meet
Sunday 9 September

Whiskeytown Lake is just outside Redding. This is a beautiful lake. There's a nice shady picnic area and beach so bring the family. This event is in the early fall and the weather can be either chilly or hot. The lake is a bit cooler than Berryessa (think mid to high 60's). If you plan to do both the 1- and 2-mile events, be prepared to feel a little cold at the start of the 2-mile. Post event snacks.

Alan Liu Meet

Every year, Mountain View Masters organizes a fundraiser for Jill Mason and swimmers far and wide have graciously donated to support Jill.
This year, instead of raising funds specifically for Jill, Jill has asked us to donate to MADD- Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
Jill is participating in a walk for MADD on Oct. 6 in Sacramento, and through this walk, we show our support for tougher laws against drunk driving and our never-ending sense of loss that a drunk driver has caused. So, to honor Jill and Alan, please donate to MADD.
Jill's page where you can donate directly:

Brief History Alan Liu was Mountain View Master's head coach back in early 2000-2004 and Jill Mason was a swimmer w/ MVM. On Easter Morning, April 11, 2004, Alan & Jill were hit by a drunk driver while riding their bikes in Santa Rosa while visiting Alan's mom. Alan was killed instantly. Jill was also hit and her spinal cord was severed and is permanently paralyzed from the waist down. We continue to honor Alan's memory and support Jill every year thru this amazing meets.

This year marks the 7th Annual SF Bay Swim for Swim Across America.  Help us "Make Waves to Fight Cancer".  Money raised goes directly to 2 Bay Area beneficiaries:  UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Survivors of Childhood Cancer Program and the Center for Cancer Research at Children's Hospital and Research Center Oakland. Help us reach our fundraising goal of $300,000.

The San Francisco Bay swim is an SAA favorite. Swimmers take a boat from Pier 3 to Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, a great scenic tour of the bay with time to bond with friends, old and new.  We'll jump in under the Golden Gate Bridge, a dramatic and unique entry point rarely experienced.  Swimmers will head into Crissy Field Beach, a total of around 1.5 miles, depending on the tides.  The morning concludes with a celebration at Crissy Field Beach (Swimmers not wanting to swim the full 1.5 mile can opt for our  for our .5 mile course...Just register online,  at  www.swimacrossamerica.org/sf
