Richmond OWS, Sun Sept 25th

Alan Liu SCM Meet, Sun, Sept 25th

Sacramento Pentathlon, Sun, Oct 2nd

Pac Masters SCM Champs, Oct 14-16

Greetings!

Hoping to get your help in spreading the word to your teams about some upcoming events for Pacific Masters Swimming!

This weekend we've got two events, an open water swim in Richmond and a short course meters meet, the Alan Liu Memorial, in Mountain View. Both are held on Sunday, September 25th. More info follows below.

Next we have the short course meters pentathlon in Davis on Sunday, October 2nd, and our Pac Masters Champs on the weekend of October 14-15-16 in Walnut Creek.

The Richmond Plunge Masters team is hosting the Keller Cove Swim For Kids Sake' OWS on Sunday September 25th. This venue offers a 1/2 mile, 1 and 2 mile swims (they run concurrently). Water temps expected around 60-64 degrees. This event is open to Masters and USA Swimmers 11-18 years of age.

Also on the same Sunday, September 25th, the 8th Annual Alan Liu Memorial Short Course Meters Meet takes place in Mountain View. SPONSOR AN EVENT AT THIS MEET! At the upcoming meet, MVM has typically made a donation to Jill Mason in support of Jill Mason, former MVM swimmer. As many of you know, she and Alan were hit by a drunk driver while riding their bikes on Easter morning in 2004. Jill's life will never be the same as she was permanently paralyzed, and their on-going support of her is very important. You can see Jill's website at: www.jillmason.com. For the 3rd year in a row, they have a FUN way to support her: by sponsoring each event at their meet.

In exchange for your (minimum) donation of $25 to the "Jill Mason Fund," your sponsorship will be announced during the meet. For example, "Up next is the women's 400IM, sponsored by Coach Laura, in heat one..."

They are asking for sponsors for each event for all 32 events. Individuals, teams, groups of lanemates, coaches, be creative!

To request sponsorship of a particular event, please email Coach Laura ([email protected]).  Sponsorship checks should be made out to "Jill Mason" and can be brought to the pool or mailed through September 22. Or, mail checks to 485-D Easy St., Mtn. View, CA  94043.

Another great short course meters meet is the Sacramento Pentathlon held Sunday, October 2nd, in Davis at the Schaal Aquatic Center on the campus of UC Davis. This is a fun meet that is over before you know it! The meet consists of 50s of each stroke, the 100 IM, and an opportunity for some 200 Medley Relays (mixed, men's and women's). Come get a tune up for the Champs meet held two weeks later!

Then, we have the Pac Masters Short Course Meters Championships, held again this year at the Clarke Swim Center (Heather Farm Park) in Walnut Creek. The meet begins on Friday, October 14th and continues through the weekend, ending on Sunday, October 16th. Let's shoot for a big turnout this year! No deck entries at this meet. The deadline for online entries for this meet is 11:59 p.m. Weds, Oct 5th.

Also, to let you know, I'll be stepping down from my position as Coaches Chair at the end of the year. My husband and I are moving to Arizona in December. I'll definitely be back and forth to the Bay Area quite frequently, visiting and helping my parents, and hopefully continuing to catch some swim meets here as well. It has been such an honor to serve in this position and to get to know all of the different coaches and teams.

If you are interested in the position of Coaches Chair and have questions about the position and responsibilities, please don't hesitate to contact me. It is a great way to network, meet other coaches, and help out with an absolutely incredible organization of volunteers who make Pacific Masters the top LMSC!

I'll be at each of the swim meets outlined here, and I hope to see you and your team represented!

Sincerely,
Cokie Lepinski
