Swim Across America
Swim Across America, Inc., [SAA] is dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming- related events. With the help of hundreds of volunteers nationwide and past and current Olympians, SAA is helping find a cure for cancer through athleticism, community outreach and direct service.
The San Francisco Bay Area Swim Across America is looking to raise $300,000. The San Francisco Bay swim is an SAA favorite. Swimmers take a boat from Pier 9 to Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, a great scenic tour of the bay with time to bond with friends, old and new. They will jump in under the Golden Gate Bridge, a dramatic and unique entry point rarely experienced. Swimmers will head into Crissy Field Beach, a total of around 1.5 miles. A great way to swim and raise funds for cancer research. |
Thoughts and Prayers
Kate Curry
June 16, 1936 - July 16, 2011.
Long time Mountain View Masters Swimmer Kate Curry passed away on July 16 after a long battle with cancer. She was 75. An artist by profession, Kate was also a swimming parent and grandparent, eventually finding her own way into the pool, where she proved to be an intrepid athlete and fierce competitor.
A remarkable woman, she swam through the 2006 FINA World Masters Championships at Stanford while undergoing chemotherapy for leukemia. This toughness, though, was overshadowed by her warmth, her kindness and her insightful wisdom. She was both a great friend and an inspiration to those of us who have been privileged to know her over the years. She is missed.
