Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Asian Law Caucus pledges to boycott all future meetings with President Obama on immigration unless directly impacted community members are present. In November 2013, during a visit to San Francisco's Chinatown, Ju Hong, a member of ASPIRE (Asian Students Promoting Immigrant Rights through Education), called on the President to use executive action to stop deportations. The President disingenuously claimed he lacked authority to do so. Since then, the President has refused to engage directly with impacted community members while thousands of families remain separated and torn apart.

With no accountability to immigrant communities, the President has avoided addressing the record 2 million deportations in the interest of political convenience. As long as immigrants facing deportation are not at the negotiating table, they will be used as political props by both political parties.

"Looking a fourteen year old child in the eye and having to explain why her father is being deported never stops being painful." said Anoop Prasad, Senior Staff Attorney at Advancing Justice - Asian Law Caucus. If the President wants to continue tearing our communities apart, he should have to do the same. We call on the President to meet visit detention facilities and meet the people he deports. Until they are at the negotiating table, we call on all advocates to boycott meetings with the President.
