Dear
As I reflect on the incredible week of VBS we had last week I can't help but think about all the servants of Cross Keys Baptist Church that God used to make it all happen. Serving is at the center of being a follower of Christ. Jesus said "For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" Mark 10:45. Let me encourage you to serve. Here are a few new service opportunities we have available in the life of the church. Pray and ask our Heavenly Father where He would have you to serve and then get busy serving!
NEW areas where servants are needed:
- Host Homes for Family Legacy Small Group Meetings
- Group Discussion Facilitators for Family Legacy Small Group Meetings
- Bus Drivers for Sunday Mornings
- Car Pool Drivers for Sunday Mornings
- Afternoon Kids Club Workers for one day a month
In His Love,
Pastor Jeff

LOCAL MISSION OPPORTUNITY
I just received a call from Tom Firasek at the St. Louis Metro Baptist Association Office. Our sister church, First Baptist Church of St. John, is having a huge Block Party on Sunday, August 10. They are needing help with cooking and running inflatables and booths. This is very similar to what we have done with the Fall Festival and are doing the week before, Aug. 3, with our Back to School Bash. Obviously we need you here to help and serve at our Back to School Bash, but if you are willing and able to also help First St. John's with their Block Party the following Sunday, August 10, contact Tom Firasek at 314-225-1348.

Back to School Bash
Sunday, August 3
3 - 6 PM
We're not doing a Fall Festival this October. Instead, we're doing a "Back to School Bash!" Similar to the Fall Festival in that we will have inflatables, carnival games, candy and, because it's a Back to School Bash, school supplies! Wedgwood Elementary School has already handed out flyers to the entire school inviting the children and families to our Back to School Bash.
We need you to PRAY, SERVE, DONATE. Pray that God will be honored, people loved and lives changed as we share Jesus in word and deed. Serve by volunteering to help. There are MANY needs for this special day. See Ken Buss for information on how you can help. Donate. We will be giving away candy and school supplies. Begin looking for deals, buying some candy and school supplies and dropping them off at the collection table in the long hallway. Need more information? Contact Ken Buss at 314-831-0643. |

What I'm Reading - Pastor Jeff
In addition to daily Bible intake, I am reading/listening to a lot of things right now.
I thought I'd share some of my recommendations here.
What I'm reading/listening to at the moment - "Jesus and the Gospels: An Introduction and Survey"
by Craig L. Blomberg (a book for my new seminary class) - "Jesus the Messiah: A Survey of the Life of Christ"
by Robert H. Stein (a book for my new seminary class) - "A Harmony of the Gospels: New American Standard Version"
by Robert L. Thomas & Stanley N. Gundry (a book for my new seminary class) by Norman L. Geisler and Ron Rhodes - "The King James Version Debate: A Plea for Realism"
by D.A. Carson - "Finding God When You Need Him Most"
by Chip Ingram - "Whiter Than Snow: Meditations on Sin and Mercy"
by Paul David Tripp by Matt Batterson"When Cultists Ask"
Other Recommended Resources One of the few things I try to listen to every weekday is "The Briefing," a daily analysis of the news from a Christian worldview. This is brilliant Biblical analysis of the daily events in our culture by Dr. Albert Mohler, President of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Give it a listen and let me know what you think http://www.albertmohler.com/category/the-briefing Do you read "ebooks"? Here's a new website I just discovered that lists free as well as super sales on Christian ebooks: http://www.gospelebooks.net |
New Church Covenant Preamble
As members of this church, we commit to love each other, submit to Scripture, meet together, worship together and alone, form Gospel-centered relationships, remain united, watch over one another, give cheerfully, die to self, walk in holiness, be trustworthy, pray faithfully, gracefully embrace one another, and continue in Christ no matter where we go.
New Church Covenant
Church Covenant Please Note:Statements in (bold) refer to preamble
We will engage to walk together in Christian love through the power of the Holy Spirit. (love each other)
We submit to Scripture as our final authority, and reject all heretical beliefs and practices. (submit to Scripture)
Unless providentially hindered, we will not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, but will faithfully attend the church's gatherings for worship, prayer, study, and fellowship, and will use our spiritual gifts for the common good. (meet together)
We resolve to practice personal and family worship, to train our children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (worship together and alone), and intentionally engage relationships based on the Gospel to seek salvation for our family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, acquaintances, and of all the world. (form Gospel-centered relationships)
We pledge to faithfully participate in the ordinances of the church, and endeavor to attain unity of mind in doctrine.(remain united) We will submit to the church's discipline upon ourselves and lovingly assume our responsibility to participate in the discipline of other members, as taught in Scripture.(watch over one another)
We will contribute cheerfully and regularly to this church for its ministry and expenses, the relief of the poor, the cause of reformation and revival, and the spread of the Gospel throughout all nations. (give cheerfully)
We will strive by God's grace and power to live as Christ in the world; and denying ungodliness and worldly lusts we will seek to fulfill our calling to lead holy lives and to be salt and light.
(die to self)
We will be just and honest in our dealings and faithful in our responsibilities and commitments.
(be trustworthy)
We will abide by the standards of sexual purity, ethical integrity, and spiritual fidelity as taught in Scripture. (walk in holiness)
We will remember one another in prayer, watch over one another in brotherly love, help one another in sickness and distress, and cultivate Christian compassion and courtesy. (pray faithfully)
Believing that the pursuit of peace with others and personal holiness accompany true faith in Christ, we will be slow to take offense, always eager to seek the reconciliation Christ commands, and will work to preserve the unity of the Spirit. (gracefully embrace one another)
We promise that if, in the providence of God, we leave this church we will do so in peace and we will diligently seek to unite with another Christian church where we can continue to carry out the spirit and principles of Scripture. (continue in Christ no matter where we go)
Statement of Faith
We believe in Jesus Christ, who was crucified, died, was buried, and rose again three days later from the grave. We are a new creation in Christ saved by His blood and not by our works. In faith, we believe baptism is a demonstration of one's personal commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ as a disciple of His. We were dead in our sins and are now made alive in Christ.
Conclusion
Therefore, as individual members of the body of Christ, we actively and joyfully come together to follow this covenant through the faith confirmed by God's Spirit and revealed by His Holy Scriptures.
