Dublin's Kate Morrison Wins Bronze Medal in

National Equestrian Competition

July 22, 2013

Contact: Angela Moore

Kate Morrison competed in the 2013 Adequan/FEI North American Junior & Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC) this past weekend at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington and emerged as the individual Bronze Medalist aboard Windoctro in the Show Jumping competition. The 19 year-old Morrison has been competing nationally on the AA equestrian circuit for the past 8 years.  Morrison is the daughter of Betsy and Craig Morrison and trains at Stealaway Farm in Dublin under the direction of grand prix rider, Angela Moore.

Riders had to qualify over the previous year to be invited to represent their zone in this prestigious competition that included riders from throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico.  Morrison travels more than 30 weeks per year to participate at the most elite level of the sport in events such as the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida, numerous shows in Lexington, Kentucky, and Lake Placid, New York, among others.

Morrison (Zone 5) and Windoctro competed in five jumping rounds over a three day period. On the final day she went double clear and received the Bronze medal with 13.70 faults.  She has been riding Windoctro, a 10-year-old KWPN gelding by Indoctro, since September.

In an interview following the competition, Morrison said "Anytime he goes into the ring, he gives his all. He's not the easiest. He goes in the ring lagging a little bit and you have to kick him up. Once he's there though, he jumps amazing. He's going to try as hard as I do. I was giving my all and he obviously did too. I was really happy with how he went. He jumped amazing for me."

Morrison is a graduate of Village Academy and is an incoming freshman at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).

Reflecting on the performance, Morrison's trainer, Angela Moore, said, "Winning a NAJYRCE medal at the championships was one of the many high goals Kate established for herself this year.  We developed a rigorous training and competition plan to support these goals.  Through her dedication and hard work she was able to achieve this significant milestone for a young rider."

"Whether it's soccer, lacrosse or swimming, all coaches want athletes that are willing to work hard to refine their talent and remain coachable through the process.  Kate is just that kind of athlete and it's very gratifying for me as a trainer to see the result of that work and humility pay off in such a big way.  I'm extremely proud of what she's accomplished," Moore concluded.

Stealaway Farm is a full service Hunter Jumper facility located in Dublin, Ohio offering training and showing programs for all levels, from beginners to advanced riders.  Angela Moore, Head Trainer at Stealaway, is a USHJA certified trainer with more than 25 years of professional experience competing and coaching from the short stirrup to grand prix levels. FOR LEASE

14 year old Appendix Quarter Horse Gelding; 15.3 hh. Great horse for a beginner rider looking for a confident horse to help them master the ropes or an advanced rider looking for a fun horse to take them to the next level. Easy, fun jumper. Evented up to novice level.  Great for eventing, hunter/jumpers, and dressage.  Caesar is a wonderful horse who really loves to be fussed over. He has wonderful ground manners and knows a couple of tricks including bow and picking his hooves up on command to be picked out. I am looking for a full or half leaser for Caesar because I will be starting my second year of veterinary school at OSU in August and will not be able to give him the time and attention he deserves. Caesar must remain at Hunters Creek Equestrian Center in Westerville, OH and lessee is required to partake in lessons.
