Hello there !

I have always thought of myself as an above average communicator. I have been blessed with many great teachers over the years who have given me bits of gold that help me to be more effective. These were not linear teachers who told me what to say but spiritual teachers who helped me connect with the person I want to communicate with.  

I thought I would share a few of the insights to that have helped over the years.  

1.       Know who you are talking to. Before you can use any method to communicate you may want to stop for a moment and realize who they are and how they like to be spoken to.

2.       Speak into their listening. If they like facts, then give them facts. If they like story, then give them story. Even if you are one way and they are another, you want to honor THEIR way or it isn't going to land as well.

3.       Set your intentions for an outcome. How do you want the conversation to go- a mutual agreement, forgiveness, a release - its important to know where you are going, not only for yourself but they may want to know as well.

4.       Speak a language that they understand. That means, if they understand sports, speak to them in sports terms or at a level they are on in communication. Do use sophisticated language for someone who never uses it themselves.

5.       If they don't get you, or don't feel good about the conversation, trust that they are right. 99.9% of the time, how you land with someone is more important than how you said it. If they felt attacked or belittled and you didn't mean it, you still want to address their feelings.

6.       Be loving and concise. Everyone wants to get to the point and know what a conversation is going to be about. Waiting for the subject matter to come up buried somewhere inside a lot of words can be frustrating and you can lose their attention.  

While these only a few tips, I thought they might help you today.
