FORCED TO GROW UP

Hello !

mom
Madelene Amendola
8/26/26-10/15/77
Today would have been my mother's 87th birthday. Unfortunately she passed when she was 51 years old. I often wonder how these 36 years would have been different if I had her around past my 19th year.

I married at 19 and lived a life as an adult without parental guidance from that time. I loved every minute of it but in retrospect I was forced to grow up very early. Even though we are technically adults at that age, 19 is pretty young to not have a home to run to or have the guidance, support and security that comes with having your parents close by. (My father lived out of state)

I would say there are pros and cons to growing up fast. I started a business at age 21 and have been an entrepreneur ever since. I guess you could say I was more responsible than others my age who were out partying every night while I was building a future. I had fun mind you, and I lived my life my way. I didn't have to answer to anyone.

What I didn't have was the foundation of home base. Sunday dinners. Life and relationship training. I didn't have someone to plan my wedding with or talk to me about 'things'. I often say jokingly that if my mother was here, I would probably still live with her. I would have stayed someone's little girl.

We all have that pivotal moment when we go from child to adult. That time when we will never be the same. There are good aspects of that and sad ones. It typically means a loss or dramatic change of some sort. But we get through it and we become the person we are today. Hopefully someone with character and substance because of it all. Probably someone better than we thought possible.

Where in your life were you forced to grow up? How has it impacted you? For today, see if you can appreciate the time when your life became different appreciate what wouldn't have been possible otherwise.

Happy Birthday Mom and thank you for my life.

Here's to your growth

Fran
