BEFORE YOU THROW IN THAT TOWEL

Hello !

I observe people of all types in all areas of life and how they manage something new. There are those who have such staying power when taking on a project, new philosophy or business opportunity. They are considered perseverant and it appears to be an admirable trait.

Then there are those who in the same scenarios are the type who will give up at the first sign that something isn't working. They lack the muscle that keeps them trying and learning how to make progress and build momentum. They start a new business and if they don't get a new client in a week, they go on to the next business idea. I even know someone who put out her very first blog and gave up because no one commented on it (could it be no one knew about it?) I'm just saying.

Then there are those who stay too long. They just don't know when the right time is to call it quits.

So which one are you ? I consider myself perseverant and yet, at times I wonder if that's admirable after all. Just because I start something, does it mean I am committed for life?  I think I am one of those people who may need to quit a bit earlier than I do.

How do you know when it's time to throw in that towel?  Here are a few indicators to prompt your thinking and you may even come up with some of your own.

Nothing is written in stone so don't be giving up on something if you don't want to.

  • You lost the passion for what you are doing (unless you can revive it, it may be time to move on)
  • It's not working - if you've given something a fair amount of time (more than once or twice) then look into the idea that it may be a misfit.
  • You feel unfulfilled - Maybe you've chosen too small for yourself and there is something bigger out there for you.
  • You feel you are staying with this 'thing' to prove a point to others.
  • Someone else is asking you to continue.
  • You have nowhere else to go.

Before throwing in that towel , decide if you are committed to what you've started and do what it takes to regain momentum.  Then take a look at this list and see if you are choosing for the wrong reasons. Of course there could be extenuating circumstances for any of these.

Remember that we are entitled to a life of Bliss. It doesn't come knocking on your door. You are responsible for causing it in your life and that means, making choices towards a blissful life. It's scary to go somewhere you've never been. Usually the rewards are worth it. It doesn't matter whether you choose to continue or to change your life, what matters is how you feel about it.

Enthusiastically,

Fran
