WHO'S YOUR MEMORY MAKER?

Dad
Happy Birthday Sal Amendola

Hello !

Yesterday was my fathers birthday. He passed 17 years ago. I decided to post his photo on Facebook and asked for some favorite stories. While that request stimulated many a moment that involved my father, I realized that he was in fact one of our great family memory makers.

It seems as though he was behind much of the most memorable events of my past -  from the huge parties we threw to the laughter we had to how he created fun out of family chores.  Yes my mother was right there with him participating and doing a great job. But you knew that much of it was my father's doing. He was the one who initiated annual backyard cookouts and getting all of his fellow firemen to do a family day at Montauk Point once a year. He was the one who made shoveling the driveway more fun because we built a huge igloo out of the excess snow for the neighborhood kids to play in. He was the one who decorated the house to the hilt over the holidays with life size wooden carolers singing out into the street.

I can't remember anyone from my childhood making me laugh as much as he did or anyone who demanded quality family time as much as he. This all coming from an accomplished man who lost his mother at 9 and quit school at a very young age.

It doesn't matter who you are, where you came from or what you are going through. You can always be one of the big memory makers in your circle. If you are, then congratulations for taking on that role. As you know people will remember the good times that someone provided and the connections that were created. You get to ride on someones rainbow or you can be the pilot. Which do you choose?

I know I will get several responses to this daily message from the recipients of the footprints my father left on their hearts and the warmth he provided. Long after he is gone, the good times he created remain - what a legacy don't you think ?

Thanks for the memories Dad - I love you.

Fran
