Hello!
, I'm a bit embarrassed to share one of my nicknames that I received when I was about 20 years old. I'll bet that it's the longest nick name in history.
I was in telephone sales, where I sold several items over a few year period. Items from live reptiles to pet stores to precious investment gems. (Don't hate me, I was young) Even though I was a very successful sales person, whenever I was starting with a new company, it would literally take me days to pick up the phone to call my first potential customer. Oh, I was pathetic! I would have to hear everyone do their pitch, I would take loads of notes, contemplate what I was going to say, try to learn everything that could ever happen before I would place myself in an awkward situation where heaven forbid I would NOT know the answer to something.
This would drive my managers crazy and they would do everything they could do to get me on that darn phone. One manager even called my husband to see if he could light a fire under me (How humiliating)
Then one day a manager crowned me with a nickname that would change my life forever. He said Fran, your new name is: 'On your mark, get set, get ready, get ready, get ready, get ready'..... Because you never GO!!!
I found it funny and appalling, but also very true. And even though I occasionally find that characteristic rearing its ugly head in my life to this day, I can now recognize it and do something about it. I don't have to be so ready that it immobilizes me. I can prepare, but at some point I have to GO!! So now I take action much quicker than in my 20's. I allow for the unknown to unfold. I now trust myself to be able to manage all that I used to be afraid would happen if I didn't over prepare.
, Where in your life do you over prepare? Are you a 'get ready, get ready, get ready' type of person? What are you afraid of? What would it take for you to GO?
Just for today, I request you trust yourself that going and bumping up against a challenge is much more fun than over preparing. Try it, you'll like it!
Go Go!
Enthusiastically,
Fran
