Hello !
There were a couple of scenes in the 1980's movie Broadcast News where Holly Hunter, a very busy executive producer of a news show, locked herself in her room and unplugged her phone in order to have a good cry. She finished up eloquently, plugged the phone back in and resumed her busy life. This was meant to be a comedic scene I am sure. However it was life changing for me.
, how many times do you think that it's an inappropriate time for a cry? Maybe it's in the middle of your work day or during a conversation that's going awry. For me it used to come inconveniently right smack in the middle of showing property during my Real Estate career.
I now have this inner dialogue that gives me permission to put my cry on hold until a time that is more convenient. Often I would eagerly look forward to 8:00 pm when I could just be alone with myself and let it all out. Sound crazy? Well, possibly. It does make a difference for me and so I offer it to you as a potential tool to honor your emotions instead of suppress them.
Oh, and I am still getting funny looks from those I confided in about my scheduled cries, (you know who you are), so be careful who you share this with especially for you men criers! As for me , I won't tell!
From someone who enjoys a good cry,
Fran
