THE COALITION CONNECTION
June 17, 2016
Dear NCGS Community,

Through networking, NCGS connects its member schools with each other and to strategic partners to advance your work on behalf of girls. We are offering several such opportunities throughout the 2016-2017 academic year:
  • Austin Reception for NCGS Member Schools: During the annual CASE-NAIS Conference, being held in Austin, Texas, January 22-24, 2017, NCGS will host an evening reception for our member school representatives to gather and connect.
  • Washington DC Girls' School NET: Networking & Empowering Together Reception: NCGS will offer the unique opportunity for our member schools to connect with their alumnae and fellow educators from other NCGS member schools during during the 2017 NCGS Conference, Education Innovation: Building Cultures of Creativity. A Girls' School NET reception will be held the evening of June 26, 2017, in Washington DC.
In addition to these in-person networking events, I encourage you to read more below about the Global Girls Inspiration Network (GGIN). GGIN is a virtual opportunity for the faculty and administrators at NCGS member schools to connect and collaborate on a global scale.

Best Wishes,
Megan

Executive Director
Global Girls Inspiration Network
Following a successful prototype year, NCGS and Online School for Girls (part of One Schoolhouse) are pleased to extend an invitation to all schools to join the Global Girls Inspiration Network (GGIN) for the 2016-2017 academic year.

Educators today are faced with a series of complicated challenges, issues, and dilemmas: global citizenship, health and wellness, maker spaces, classroom innovation, civic and community engagement, student agency, assessment strategies, gender identity, best practices for teaching girls, advocacy for all-girls education, etc.

The goals of the Global Girls Inspiration Network (GGIN) are to:
  • Connect girls' school educators from across the globe.
  • Create opportunities for girls' school educators to wrestle with key questions and challenges.
  • Develop shared understandings from a girls' school and a global perspective.
The GGIN is fueled by the belief that girls' schools are at their best when they work together to tackle complex challenges -- girls' school educators inspiring each other. GGIN is an innovative way to meet many schools' strategic objective to develop in every member of its community a more comprehensive worldview. It allows schools to directly invest in its faculty and staff so they may have an opportunity to become global thinkers and leaders.

Comprised of a series of at least 10 four to six-week long "Conversations" scheduled throughout the year, GGIN is an efficient and flexible way for schools to deliver ongoing professional development to educators while they are on campus, fully entrenched in their daily work, tackling issues being discussed in real-time. All Conversations are led by experienced facilitators who are deeply connected to the girls' school community. Click here to learn more about the tentative Conversations planned for 2016-2017.

Schools that join GGIN for a low annual fee become part of a network that allows every faculty and staff member at your school to take part in as many Conversations as they would like throughout the year. For more information, click here, including FAQs and program fees. To enroll your school in GGIN, click here.

Foxcroft School Hosting Drone Workshop for Educators
Foxcroft School has partnered with Kashmir World Foundation to host the first "Teachers Take Flight" drone practicum. This five-day workshop, offered July 11-15, 2016, will train educators on the design, fabrication, and utilization of unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, and how to use them to engage students in STEM subjects in the classroom. Developed by Kashmir Robotics, this is the first such program created exclusively for teachers and is appropriate for educators of all levels, from primary school through university.

Led by experts in STEM fields and education, the workshop will focus on teaching the fundamentals of drone building and programming through a hands-on experience similar to Kashmir Robotics' popular Da Vinci Challenge workshops offered to students. Teachers will participate in interactive sessions to acquire and share knowledge about using programs to inspire students. Included among the daily seminar topics for the "Teachers Take Flight" workshop are drone building and safety, engaging students in STEM, multicopter assembly, mission planner training, and school curriculum development. On the final day, attendees will participate in a Drone Flight Day using the drones they collaborated to build during the week.

Highlights from the NCGS "Listening & Learning Tour"
Executive Director Megan Murphy and NCGS Trustee Mariandl Hufford, Assistant Head of School and Director of the Center for the Advancement of Girls at The Agnes Irwin School, recently traveled together to the land down under. Here's what they had to say from the southern hemisphere:

"Last month, Mariandl and I traveled to Brisbane to present on NCGS programs and services at the biennial conference of the Alliance of Girls' Schools Australasia. Conference themes included gender equity, Generation Z, leadership agility, women's philanthropy, indigenous culture, gender identity, professional learning outcomes, among many others. Read more about our global conversation on Mariandl's blog."
