SPECIAL EDITION of THE COALITION CONNECTION
February 12, 2016
Dear NCGS Community,

This special edition of The Coalition Connection is dedicated to news and highlights from the Global Forum on Girls' Education, Creating a World of Possibilities.

The Global Forum was a historic gathering of leading educators, researchers, advocates, and authors from around the world. We came together to "create a world of possibilities" for girls' education. To discuss, debate, and share best practices and innovations.

Today, our world is smaller, more interdependent, and tighter knit than ever before. Our greatest challenges are truly global in scope, from climate change to human rights, to global health and sustainable human development.

Educated, empowered women are now and will be indispensable to overcoming these challenges. Our job is to help educate, nurture, and empower the girls who will become these "indispensable" women. We gathered because we are passionate about ever-improving how we fulfill this mission.

Best wishes,

CELEBRATIONS
The National Coalition of Girls' Schools (NCGS) proudly kicked off during the Global Forum its celebration of a quarter century of advancing girls' education! On Sunday evening, NCGS staff and trustees hosted an intimate reception for the Coalition's past board presidents and foundational leaders, including founding Co-Executive Directors, Meg Moulton and Whitty Ransome. Their spirit of determination and collaboration, which positioned NCGS for 25 years of growth and success, was recognized on Monday during a "birthday" lunch with all 950 Global Forum guests.

To learn more about the Coalition's history, take a moment to view our new History and Reflections on 25 Years webpages. And if you haven't seen the recent Raising Girls' Voices blog post, there you will find thoughts from Meg and Whitty regarding what the NCGS community means to them.

NCGS was happy to share its anniversary celebration with two of its Global Forum strategic partners. The Alliance of Girls' Schools Australasia is also celebrating its 25th anniversary and the Young Women's Leadership Network (YWLN) presented the Public School Symposium in honor of the 20th anniversary of the founding of YWLN's flagship school.

AWARDS

Concepcion R. Alvar, Headmistress of Marymount School of New York and former NCGS trustee, was presented with the 2015-2016 Ransome Prize. The Ransome Prize is presented annually in honor of NCGS co-founder Whitty Ransome. Recipients reflect the traits that characterized Whitty's own commitment to NCGS: a pure devotion to a higher cause, joyfulness in serving others, and the grace and generosity in allowing others to take credit for good work. The Ransome Prize is awarded to a woman who has made outstanding contributions to the Coalition and one of its member schools to further the NCGS mission to be "a leading advocate for girls' schools, connecting and collaborating globally with individuals, schools, and organizations dedicated to educating and empowering girls."

It was announced that starting in the 2016-2017 school year, NCGS will present for the first time The Bill Christ Educator Prize, an annual award in honor of former NCGS trustee and long-time visionary Head of Hathaway Brown School, Bill Christ. Established by his friends at Hathaway Brown, NCGS will present this award to a man or woman who has demonstrated a commitment to extraordinary teaching, program design and/or curricular innovation in a member school.

NCGS member schools are proud of their tradition of excellence in the teaching of girls, and The Bill Christ Educator Prize of $1,000 will honor that tradition in a way that inspires other girls' school educators in their work. The Christ Educator will be an individual whose teaching efforts have been noted as innovative by his or her peers and institution. The recipient will reflect creative excellence, cutting edge programming, entrepreneurial teaching, and collaborative design in his/her teaching that characterized Bill Christ's own leadership style as the quintessential "educator's educator."  Additionally, the recipient will reflect the principles for which NCGS stands, including a commitment to collaboration, imagination, leadership, opportunity, integrity, and self-efficacy.

A call for nominations will be announced this fall, so start thinking of who you would like to nominate to become the first recipient of our new Bill Christ Educator Prize!
