THE COALITION CONNECTION
September 10, 2015
|
Dear NCGS Community,
Presented in honor of the National Coalition of Girls' Schools (NCGS) co-founder Whitty Ransome, The Ransome Prize was established by her husband Tom Wilcox in 2009. NCGS presents this annual award to a woman who has made outstanding contributions to the Coalition and one of its member schools to further the NCGS mission to be "a leading advocate for girls' education with a distinct commitment to the transformative power of all-girls schools." The recipient of the $1,000 prize reflects a pure devotion to a higher cause, joyfulness in serving others, and the grace and generosity in allowing others to take credit for good work, all of which characterized Whitty Ransome's own commitment to NCGS.
NCGS is now accepting nominations for the 2015-2016 Ransome Prize.
If you know a colleague who embodies the personal characteristics of Whitty Ransome, as described above, and who has made extraordinary contributions to NCGS and girls' education, we invite you to nominate her. The deadline to submit nominations is October 14, 2015.

Registration Open for Final Session of "Introduction to Girls' Schools" Online Course
| |
NCGS and Online School for Girls (OSG) will once again host a fall session of the course Introduction to Girls' Schools, which will be offered October 13 - November 9, 2015. This four-week long online course allows teachers to connect and collaborate with each other while exploring approaches to teaching and learning that are most effective for girls. The course is ideal for teachers new to working in the unique environment of all-girls schools and who are looking to build connections within the NCGS network.
Summer participants shared the following feedback about the course:
- "Fantastic course for anyone in their first few years of teaching at an all-girls school! Great resources leading to thought-provoking conversations!"
- "This was an illuminating and worthwhile course. Do all the readings, take notes, and engage meaningfully with other participants, and you will come away feeling much stronger as a teacher."
- "This course was the perfect introduction to girls' schools. It allowed me to work on my own, while still engaging with classmates via online discussions. The material was highly relevant, well organized, and the instructors were wonderful."
We are pleased to announce Margaret Broad, Head of St. Margaret's School (VA) from 1989-2013, will once again be the instructor for the course.
