THE COALITION CONNECTION
March 10, 2015
Dear NCGS Community,

How exactly does one become a "thought-leader?" In truth, it takes much more than just sharing an informed opinion. That opinion must reach beyond the converted. It is an ongoing, cumulative effort to position an organization as the go-to source within its field of expertise. Thought-leaders inspire and help shape national and international conversations.

As the leading advocate for girls' education, NCGS is continually positioning itself to be a thought-leader in the education and healthy development of girls and young women. We continue to build upon the Coalition's growing reputation as a source of information on girls' schools beyond the NCGS community via social media, letters to the editor, and OpEds.

Today, NCGS adds one more resource to further advance its viewpoint. We are proud to launch our new blog, "Raising Girls' Voices."

This forum will allow NCGS to get its voice -- and our members' voices -- into the public dialogue beyond the girls' school community. "Raising Girls' Voices" will serve as a collective effort. In addition to posts by NCGS, we look forward to featuring guest bloggers. Have a great speech about girls' education, but don't have time to maintain your own blog? Already have a blog, but have a post that would be ideal to cross-post to a wider audience? Add your voice to the conversation by contacting Olivia Haas.

We look forward to continuing our efforts to raise our combined voices as champions of girls' education.

Best wishes,

Megan

Megan Murphy

Executive Director

P.S. Don't forget about our newest internal community discussion forum, the NCGS LinkedIn group! The most recent question relates to the highly topical "Not There" campaign launched by the Clinton Foundation's No Ceilings initative in recognition of International Women's Day.

Transgender Resources from NCGS Board

At the start of the school year, the NCGS Board of Trustees established a Transgender Task Force to develop a position statement and gather member resources addressing the unique issues facing all-girls schools related to transgender youth. At our February board meeting, the task Hi-res NCGS Logoforce's recommendations were approved by the Board.

NCGS is pleased to provide you its Position Statement and Recommendations. To aid our member schools in the creation of their own policies, the task force also compiled and vetted a variety of resources and materials that can be found on our newly created Transgender Resources webpage.

In addition, NCGS is dedicating special programming to working with transgender students in the context of all-girls schools during the final day of the 2015 NCGS Conference, From STEM to STEAM: Girls' Schools Leading the Way. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the work of the NCGS Transgender Task Force, hear from members of the transgender community, and learn from colleagues and experts in the field.

Reminder: Register for Educating Girls Symposium

Only one month until Educating Girls: Be Well, Lead Well*! It's not too late to register for this one-day professional development symposium, being held on April 6, 2015, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at The Nightingale-Bamford School in New York, NY.

"Be Well, Lead Well" discussions will revolve around the intersection of leadership, resilience, and wellness. Featured speaker Rachel Simmons argues we must define girls' leadership in a way that is directly linked to the practice of self-care and self-compassion. Participants will explore this concept in small groups and brainstorm strategies to incorporate a more expansive vision of "leadership from within" into their day-to-day work with girls.

Presented by NCGS in partnership with the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS), this symposium will combine theory and practice to help schools enhance the educational journey for girls in girls' and coed schools, thereby improving the experience for all learners. The event is for all educators who work with girls in grades K-12.
