THE COALITION CONNECTION
August 1, 2013
Dear Members,

Everyone at NCGS is still enjoying the enthusiastic energy generated by our 2013 Annual Conference. Our heartfelt thanks go out to every attendee, presenter, keynote speaker, and sponsor whose participation helped make our time together such a huge success.

We continue to receive warm feedback from a wide breadth of attendees, including these comments from an NCGS conference veteran and a first-time attendee:

"Coming to the NCGS conference is a kind of homecoming for me-it is always wonderful to absorb the energy of a girls' education crowd. I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate the opportunity each year. I look forward to it more than any other conference."

"This was my first time attending and it was definitely everything I expected and more! Looking forward to next year."

For those who were not able to join us, we are indeed looking forward to seeing you next year when we come together in Philadelphia February 7-9, 2014, at the National Conference on Girls' Education co-hosted by NCGS and the Young Women's Leadership Network. In addition, we are pleased to share with our members a selection of the 2013 Annual Conference  breakout session pr2013 Annual Conference Logoesentations along with the conference program. A permanent link is now available in the "NCGS Quick Links" box on the left.

Now available for free on the NCGS website, these professional development resources are an archive library of best practices. We encourage you to take advantage of this powerful source of information to find ideas that you can implement on your own campuses.

Best wishes,

OSG & NCGS Launch "Connect - Collaborate - Innovate" Program

In June, Online School for Girls (OSG) and NCGS launched "Connect - Collaborate - Innovate: Advanced Professional Certificate in Girls' Education." The program's first in-person workshop took place at the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA, and was held in conjunction with the NCGS 2013 Annual Conference, Launching Future Leaders.

NCGS and OSG Inspired by the conference theme and some of the messages in Sheryl Sandberg's book Lean in: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead, the program participants responded to the question "What would you do if you were not afraid?" by exploring healthy risk-taking and learning how they could help their own students do the same.

In a time when education is changing rapidly, OSG and NCGS offer this certificate program to help schools and educators continue to enhance teaching and learning approaches so they reflect the ways girls learn best. Participants learn about current research and gain experience with leading-edge tools and methods. The blended course combines two program cohorts in the fields of STEM and Social Sciences/Humanities, two in-person conferences and workshops, and participation in three of OSG's asynchronous Professional Development classes.

"Connect - Collaborate - Innovate" continues through February 2014. Click here to learn more about this groundbreaking professional development program.

New York NCGS Alumnae Network Event

SAVE THE DATE!

NCGS Alumnae Network Luncheon

Monday, October 7, 2013

New York, NY

12:00 - 2:00 p.m.

The NCGS Alumnae Network (NCGSAN) is a new initiative of NCGS that connects alumnae from NCGS member schools for the purpose of personal and professional networking. NCGS launched the PBS LogoAlumnae Network in conjunction with our 2013 Annual Conference in Boston. In response to the tremendous feedback about the keynote presentation -- a viewing of specially selected clips from the empowering PBS series MAKERS: Women Who Make America -- NCGS is bringing back the film's Creator and Executive Producer, Emmy Award-winning documentarian Dyllan McGee, to speak at our New York luncheon.

"The MAKERS presentation was the highlight of the conference," shared a Boston reception attendee.

NCGS Alumnae Network programs are ready-made, cost-effective regional alumnae events. Invite your area alumnae to make three powerful connections in one afternoon: unite with their New York area classmates, engage with their alma mater, and network with local all-girls school alumnae -- a worldwide resource of 750,000 graduates of NCGS schools.

More details will be available in mid-August for the October 7 event.

Malala Makes Appeal for Education at U.N.

Malala Yousafzai, who was shot by the Taliban for being an outspoken supporter of education for girls in Pakistan, spoke at the United Nations on her 16UN Logoth birthday. She appealed to the U.N. Youth Assembly-a body of representatives from 100 countries-to advocate for education for every child.

"Let us pick up our books and our pens," Malala said. "They are our most powerful weapons. One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world. Education is the only solution."

Click here for a link to her full speech, which could be used throughout the classrooms and assembly halls of our schools to help inspire and educate.

Last winter, several NCGS member schools came together in support of Malala to create the "Moments of Voice for Malala" video, which can be viewed by clicking here.
