May 24, 2013
Dear Members,

The NCGS Alumnae Network (NCGSAN) reception on June 25 is shaping up to be a fantastic event! Earlier this week, we confirmed that the Emmy Award-winning documentarian Dyllan McGee, Creator and Executive Producer of MAKERS: Women Who Make America, will be the featured speaker at the reception. Ms. McGee will present specially selected clips of her empowering PBS documentary series.

Ms. McGee's presentation will not only be an entertaining start to the evening, but will serve as an introduction to a powerful teaching tool. The MAKERS website has an extensive collection of stories from women who have shaped the past and continue to mold the future of America. Lesson plans and activities are available on the site for K-12 educators. These activities can help interested faculty incorporate the site's digital library into their classroom, allowing students to learn more about the women they are already familiar with and introducing them to more extraordinary female leaders.

It seems fitting that we would set aside time during our Launching Future Leaders conference -- dedicated to best practices for developing the next generation of female leaders -- to hear from past and present female leaders featured in MAKERS.

Best wishes,
Megan

Highlights from Megan Murphy's "Listening and Learning Tour"

Last week, Megan traveled to New Jersey. Here are some of her comments from the Garden State:

"Kent Place School's Ethics Institute is a first-of-its kind at the primary and secondary level and is dedicated to fostering ethical thinking and decision-making in young children to prepare them to be effective leaders and compassionate citizens in the future. I am looking forward to learning more during their presentation at our Launching Future Leaders conference."

"Project Exploration at Purnell School is a hands-on, project-oriented mini-term, offered annually during February and March, when students expand their studies through international service-learning trips or intensive on-campus programs, such as 'Digital Underground' where students explore non-traditional digital photography."

"At Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child we discussed the philosophy of education through membership and participation in the Holy Child Network of Schools as well as the importance of robust athletic programs to inspire girls' life-long confidence, leadership, and health."

"While at Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart I learned about their commitment to innovation and inspiring change through social justice as well as their preparations next year to celebrate 50 Years of Stuart."

"I had the opportunity to welcome Trinity Hall as a new provisional member of NCGS by meeting with its founding head. Located in Middleton, New Jersey, Trinity Hall will open its doors to new 9th grade students in September!"
