This month marked the end of one man’s concentrated efforts to move society and the planet in a better direction. A man with true vision, Steve Jobs created Apple II, the MacIntosh, iTunes, the iPhone, the iPad and more. While hardware enables change, it first starts with an idea of what change could look like and be.
From our perspective, Steve Jobs' most important legacy was his ability to express his vision that will endure long past his passing. He knew how to use the power of the medium to communicate his viewpoint. His landmark 1984 TV ad is considered the best commercial ever made. It truly marked the beginning of the age of personal computing. Take a look at it once again and you’ll see how the power of images can influence and change the direction of an entire planet. People still talk about it 27 years later!
During that time we at WMS media experienced and participated in these revolutionary changes brought on by Steve Jobs. Back in the late 70’s, we were early adopters and programmers and helped integrate the Sony Betamax to Apple II to create some of the first interactive video learning systems. Over the years we have used the Apple products as they became smaller and easier to use including the latest iPad.
So as we take a moment to salute Steve Jobs and his visionary achievements, let us remember that really good and lasting visions rarely die. When properly communicated, they last long after their creators have left this world. Here’s to Steve Jobs and all those out there who have visions and the courage to communicate them to the Earth. |
