Changing to Support Today's Public Safety Agencies

Over the past several years CALEA has introduced a number of advancements to improve its delivery of service and the quality of its products. These have included assessment process changes, technology enhancements, accreditation options, sophisticated access portals to publications, and interactive corporate websites. In today's fast-paced environment, these changes have been necessary to remain relevant and ensure a strong return on investment for participating agencies. Read On

Ted Mink
Sheriff of Jefferson County
Golden, CO

In January 2015, Sheriff Ted Mink will retire after serving 41 years as a  law enforcement professional. On July 9, 2003 he was appointed Sheriff of Jefferson County. The following year, Mink was elected sheriff in the November general election, and re-elected in 2006, 2009 and 2012. Sheriff Ted Mink is an exceptional leader, community organizer, and is dedicated to serving the community with professional excellence. Read On

At the recent CALEA Commission meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Commission approved several revisions to the standards manuals, as well as approving proposed revisions to be vetted by our client agencies. One such approved revision was a major rewording of the introduction to Law Enforcement Chapter 73, Court Security.  The intent of this revision was to clarify the standards as they relate to the various court systems used in all of the jurisdictions that we serve. CALEA Agencies Eligible for Analysis Discounts

As a CALEA accredited agency you may have heard about CALEA's recognition with the International City-County Management Association (ICMA). This affiliation reflects ICMA's awareness of law enforcement accreditation not just as a best practice but THE best practice when it comes to managing and deploying police, dispatch, and training resources.  ICMA and CALEA have pledged to work together on making accreditation more robust and recognized not only in the United States but around the world. Changes Made in all CALEA Program Manuals

At the Fall 2014 meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico the Commission's Standards Review and Interpretation Committee (SRIC) approved a number of changes to the CALEA Standards Manual. These changes were published in the latest versions of the PowerDMS™ Standards Lite application of the CALEA electronic publications. Read On

The Albuquerque Conference was a success! Thanks go to Bernalillo County's Sheriff Dan Houston, the members of the Rocky Mountain Accreditation Network, and Chief Deputy Jessica Tyler for a memorable conference experience. Everyone appreciated the hospitality, particularly the Host Night dinner and entertainment. At the Saturday Celebration Banquet, 88 agencies received initial accreditation, and reaccreditation awards. See the Conference Awards list here.

Eighteen agencies received the CALEA Accreditation with Excellence Award. This credential is an additional indication of an agency's effective use of accreditation as a model for enhanced public safety service delivery. See a list here.
 
Meritorious Agencies
Thirty-three agencies were recognized in Albuquerque as a Meritorious Agency for achieving and maintaining CALEA Accreditation for 15 or more continuous years: See the list here.    
 
Tri-Arc Award
Three agencies received the CALEA Tri-Arc Award at the Albuquerque Celebration Banquet. See the recipients here.

Assessor Recognition
At the Albuquerque Conference, nine individuals were recognized for their years of service as a CALEA Assessor. Acknowledged as the Commission's "eyes and ears," this award is given in recognition of the many loyal public safety officials who have demonstrated their long-term commitment to CALEA and our accreditation process.
