CALEA Leadership Profiles
Chief Reynolds E. (Ed) Densmore
Johns Creek (GA) Police Department
Michigan native, Reynolds E. (Ed) Densmore began his law enforcement career in 1992 with the Decatur, Georgia Police Department and two years later joined the Alpharetta Police Department as a police officer. He quickly rose through the ranks and was named the chief in 2006. He had the opportunity to serve in a number of units and capacities while there, to include FTO, Patrol Commander, Traffic Unit, Office of Professional Standards, Community Policing, Tactical Team Commander, and PIO to name a few. He supervised the accreditation function and was instrumental in assisting the Alpharetta Police Department in receiving CALEA® Law Enforcement Accreditation in 1996.
In 2007, he was given a rare opportunity to build a brand new police department when he was appointed Police Chief of the City of John's Creek, Georgia. In slightly less than a year from his appointment the Johns Creek Police Department: went into service in April 2008, successfully underwent its first CALEA Assessment in April 2010, and was Law Enforcement Accredited in July 2010. The agency is currently preparing for its first reaccreditation assessment in April 2013. Read more.
Editorial Note: CALEA Leadership Profiles is a new feature for the newsletter. We want to recognize some of the many exceptional leaders involved in CALEA programming that provide inspiring leadership to their agency, to other CALEA agencies, and to the public safety profession. Agencies are encouraged to nominate additional leaders by submitting their names and profiles to CALEA E-Communique Editor Janice Dixon at jdixon@calea.org.
