Fifth Symphony to Confront WWII

 

In 2015 Peng-Peng Gong will complete his Fifth Symphony, commissioned by the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra to honor the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and the Second Sino-Japanese War. The work, which is expected to run 100 minutes when complete, will be a grand musical testimony that gathers instrumental and vocal virtuosos, the symphony orchestra and the mixed chorus in an "expo" of classical music genres.

New Violin and Clarinet Publications

 

We are very pleased to announce our latest releases in the exclusive Heifetz violin series. These publications were featured by editor Endre Granat at his 2015 ASTA workshop called "The Art of Learning". Included are works by Beethoven, Saint-Saëns and Wieniawski. Read more.

 

Meanwhile, our world-class clarinet editors bring us two very special editions now available. They include Elegy, a previously undiscovered gem by Lukas Foss edited by Richard Stoltzman, and Gershwin's Three Preludes, masterfully transcribed and arranged for Clarinet and Piano by Charles Neidich.

 
Stephen Hartke to Chair Oberlin Composition Department
 
The Oberlin College Conservatory of Music has appointed distinguished composer Stephen Hartke as its new Chair of Composition starting July 2015.

 

The announcement highlights the history of collaboration between the conservatory, one of America's most respected and innovative music institutions, and Hartke--who is among America's most respected and innovative living composers.
