Perhaps you have a hall bath or kids' bath that needs renovating but you don't want to put in all the bells and whistles.  It's not your Master Bath where you might want to add more luxurious items.

So how to renovate without it costing a fortune but still have a great outcome?

Renovate Your Bathroom without Breaking the Bank

Recently I was asked by a client to renovate one of her hall baths.  It had been many years and the bath had a '70s vibe.  She wanted to gut and add all new fixtures, but didn't want to go overboard in expenses.

This is the bathroom before we demolished.

Here's the contractor Bill Gilbert of G&S Renovations discussing where electrical outlets should be placed.  My favorite item is a timer that allows you to turn on the exhaust fan for 5-30 minutes and not worry that you or your children have forgotten to turn it off.

There was a window in the tub area which added additional light.  We decided to remove the sconces which were squeezed between the existing medicine cabinet, and install overhead recessed lighting instead.  This allowed us to install a larger medicine cabinet with three panels.

We chose a white painted vanity with a slight curve at the sink and plenty of drawers on either side for storage.

We decided to go for a classic, clean white and black color scheme. So we chose a honed dark grey pearl granite for the vanity top, and black porcelain 12"x12" tile laid out in a staggered patterned for the floor.

In the tub area we added 2"x8" white subway tiles - a bit shorter and longer than the standard size.

For the niche in the tub area we surrounded it with white Thasso marble and added interest with glass tiles.

Maybe not your glam luxurious bath room with all the bells and whistles, but just right for this client.
