Greetings!

I think we can all agree there is nothing like eating pizza right after it comes out of a brick oven. Gooey cheese – yum yum. But recently, I had the pleasure of attending a seminar at Albano Appliances in Pound Ridge on Wood Stones. My perception of what could be cooked totally changed! This month we will discuss just how versatile a wood stone can be.

Wood Stone - Not Just Your Pizza Oven

Yes, we had great tasting pizza, but so much more. Fred Albano, one of the owners of Albano’s, shared with us that Wood Stone is the premier manufacture of wood stone ovens. It can run on gas or wood, or a combination of both. However, the wood imparts a delicious wood flavor.

The stove can be installed outside or as part of your kitchen. The smallest model is 30”W - same size as your wall oven. However, the most popular model is 43” W. For a sense of that width - it fits 3 - 12” pies. It weighs in at a hefty 2,000 lbs so ventilation and structural considerations are a must!

Great for not only pizza, but for steaks, chicken, potatoes, vegetables. Here’s Chef Jehan de Noue as he is preparing to cook the meal.

Ask the Designer

Q: How can I create Atmosphere with lighting?

A: Table lamps create good lighting for tasks but also add soft lighting. Sconces provide good accent lighting and also lend decorative architectural accents to a dull or oversized wall. Sconces look great when flanking artwork or decorative mirrors. Ambience is about choices. The best way of having those choices is to have all lighting on dimmers. Think of how lighting can be used to highlight what you wish to accent and disguise what you wish to hide. For example, you might consider highlighting your mantle and adding wall washers over your artwork. Often it is the lighting, not the subject that draws the viewer in.
