UPS Expands its Commerce City Logistics and Transportation Operationsups
United Parcel Service (UPS) has multiple operations in the city and with 2,700 employees is the community's largest employer. The company is completing two expansion projects at their existing 6.3-acre site near 50th Avenue and Ivy Street.

The first $3.7 million project adds a 9,000 sq. ft modular distribution center to support 80 existing employees. The second $4.8 million project upgrades the company's current Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fleet fueling station, making it one of Colorado's largest CNG fleet fueling facilities.

State Legislative Previewstateleg
The gavel came down on the 2016 General Assembly earlier this month, with more than 250 bills being introduced to date for consideration. The city has an active state and federal legislative program, with city council annually adopting policy principles in the fall of the year and tracking legislation that has potential impacts to city operations, residents and businesses.

City Council identified three specific legislative priorities to advance during the 2016 session: expanding owner-occupied affordable housing options, preserving urban renewal and tax increment financing, and maintaining red light cameras. Economic Activity Increases
Economic Activity Expands in Fourth Quarter ReportEconActivity
During the fourth quarter of 2015, the Commerce City economy expanded across many indicators, with growth in employment and the residential real estate market. The number of city businesses increased by 68 companies from the same quarter in 2014 and jobs were up by over 1,500.  Sales of single-family attached homes rose 30.6 percent, while sales of single-family detached homes rose 1.3 percent. Retail sales continued to decline for the third quarter in a row, dropping 31.5% compared to the same quarter in 2014. 7th Annual State & Local Government Procurement Expoexpo
The 7th Annual Advance Colorado Procurement Expo will be March 24, 2016, at the Renaissance Denver Stapleton Hotel in Denver, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. New this year is Expo Talks, which will equip sellers with strategies to help them be successful in working with state and local government. Dion_s Coming to City
New Fast-Casual Dining Restaurant Coming to the City!
Dion's plans to open up its second Denver metro location at E. 104th Avenue and Chambers Road. The New Mexico-based chain serves made-to-order pizza, salads and subs for sit-down or take-out dining. Dion's is expected to open by the end of 2016.

January Openings and Ribbon Cuttings
  • 7-11 opened a new store at E. 104th Avenue and Hwy 2. This is the company's seventh store in Commerce City.
  • Rojas Café opened in December at 6025 E. Parkway Drive.
  • Sapp Bros Inc. and Stirk Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) opened a CNG fueling station at the Sapp Bros Travel Center located at 7120 E. 49th Avenue

  • Perfect Teeth, the largest provider of dental
    Perfect Teeth
     services in Colorado, opened a new practice at E. 104th Avenue and Chambers Road. Mayor Pro Tem Bullock and Councilman Diaz attended the grand opening in January.
