May 2015

Daniel van Benthyusen spent a month on Weir Farm last August and produced a marvelous new body of work. Filled with August light and a dense Hopper-esque palette, these paintings offer a new view of van Benthyusen's approach to landscape.  Susan Steeg pairs her earlier abstract paintings with new work in the same abstract vein, now enriched by more gestural, organic structures and new media. Her subtle use of color and texture remain the constant.

Join us for the opening reception on Sunday, May 31st from 2-5pm to meet the artists and enjoy the dialogue between these two very distinct voices.

Landscapes, including paintings from the Weir Farm Residency

"My time last summer as artist-in-residence at the Weir Farm was profoundly transformative in several respects.  I look forward to sharing with collectors, friends and colleagues the work I did there along with other recent landscape paintings, a great many of which are en plein air and premier coup."

Abstracts Then and Now;
Paintings and Collage

" This exhibition features  abstracts of the past and present. The earlier paintings use vibrant colors, round shapes and dots.  These  are restrained by grids which give definition and visual impact to the paintings.

The newer work is more fluid,  consisting of paintings, collage, prints and 3 dimensional abstracts in shadow boxes. The emphasis is on color, form and texture to create more organic forms."
