October 2013

As Fall settles in, Upstream presents Ned Harris' Quartet, a look back on a long career as an artist in many media.  Here Harris looks for and finds deeper connections among his many ways of working.  In Luis Perelman's show, Layers, he continues to explore structure and texture in a complex series of metallic collages and prints from his Layered Valley series.  Both shows will be on view from October 10th through November 3rd.

Come join us for what promises to be a thought provoking pair of shows at the opening reception, Sunday, October 13th from 2-5 pm.

Harris takes a retrospective approach in this show, exploring a lifelong dialogue with color, form and history in his many different ways of working. Moving from his early experiences in the WWII camouflage unit, through explorations of form and texture begun in 1974, to his love for intense, saturated reds, Harris' work embodies a life of artistic engagement in the world around him.

Harris says: " In this exhibition, I face the challenge of joining four dynamic themes that have been evident throughout my career. "  Quartet "joins the past to the present and represents the essence of my work".

In this series, Perelman uses the rigorous discipline of maintaining a single image structure to explore subtle variations in color and texture.  The result, intricate and formal, provides an intriguing view of the possibilities of collage.

Perelman's formal training as an architect is evident in his focus on shape and form, as well as his unique use of industrial materials.
