April 2013
Greetings!
Spring has finally sprung, and not a moment too soon... In April we celebrate Daniel van Benthuysen's first solo show at Upstream and explore some stunning new directions from gallery veteran Shirley Glasser. Dan's work is literally on another level, as he raises his eyes to the rooftops around him. Shirley is working with more and more formal constructs brought to life through clear strong color.
Please come and celebrate both with us next Sunday, April 7th, from 2-5pm.

 | | Daniel van Benthuysen, Second Story Sunset, Oil on Canvas, 2011 |
Daniel van Benthuysen's new paintings explore the delicate frontier between man-made structure and sky. Strong lines, graphic clarity and an intense sense of color always mark his work, as does a subtle nod to formalism.
While Dan is not a great believer in artists' statements, you can visit him and more of his work here:

Shirley R. Glasser Paintings, etc....
Glasser's diverse, charged work reflects her love of nature and her strong sense of the miracle of life.
Her vision reflects the changes in her life as well as the world around her. This most recent group of paintings grows from the diverse vocabulary of her past approaches, while incorporating a new sense of more abstract formalism.

Upstream Gallery was started in 1991 by a group of Westchester artists who were looking for a venue to show their work outside of traditional commercial galleries.
The gallery has two street level exhibition spaces. The current artist members work in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, collage / assemblage, print-making and photography. Styles range from the representational to the abstract. Members have shown in a wide variety of venues throughout the United States and Europe. Upstream encourages artists to submit their work for review. Submissions are reviewed on a monthly basis.
