Maralyn Matlick: New Paintings

"I am much more interested in expressing the essence and feeling of my subject than the subject itself," says Brooklyn-born Matlick. "I marvel at the unlimited possibilities of a sheet of white paper." Matlick is a non-representational painter who has won numerous awards for her work. Her paintings have appeared in newspapers and art magazines including, most recently,The Palette.

I'm interested in finding the visual eloquence inherent in everything I encounter.
My intention is to explore the connections between form, light, color, and
reflections to discover how those relationships interact to create engaging images. My Pittsburgh roots have inspired me to seek out urban, industrial and neglected environments, to capture overlooked and often dismissed details. Having worked
as a commercial photographer in NYC for many years, my artistic energy has now shifted to creating this very fulfilling personal work. ----Susan Richman

Upstream Gallery was started in 1991 by a group of Westchester artists who were looking for a venue to show their work outside of traditional commercial galleries.
The gallery has two street level exhibition spaces. The current artist members work in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, collage / assemblage, print-making and photography. Styles range from the representational to the abstract. Members have shown in a wide variety of venues throughout the United States and Europe. Upstream encourages artists to submit their work for review. Submissions are reviewed on a monthly basis.
