Today in Christian History
On this day in 1527 an army of barbarians who had been sent--but were no longer controlled--by Emperor Charles V sacked Rome. Many Protestants interpreted the attack as a divine rebuke, and some Catholics agreed: "We who should have been the salt of the earth decayed until we were good for nothing," wrote Cardinal Cajetan, Luther's adversary. "Everyone is convinced that all this has happened as a judgment of God on the great tyranny and disorders of the papal court." |

In public, in the daylight, on holy Olivet, the Lord finished with glory the career which He began in obscurity. He finished His earthly career, but not His human life. His ascension perpetuated His incarnation. He did not evacuate His human body, but carried it with Him to the right hand of God--with its nail prints and its thorn scars. Touched with a feeling of our infirmities, our great High-priest has passed into the heavens. There He ever liveth to make intercession for us. With His pierced hands He is able to save to the uttermost them that come unto God by Him.

Fr. Mark D. Stuart
Dear friends and parishioners,
I am delighted to be able to announce that Fr Mark Stuart will be expanding his work and ministry here at St Thomas the Apostle, Hollywood. Fr Stuart, with generous enthusiasm and support from Bishop Bruno will become the Associate Priest of our parish from Sunday, 3rd July, 2016, our Patronal Feast of St Thomas the Apostle.
Fr Stuart has been a long-time friend and priest here at St Thomas and has been the catalyst for many of the developments in our parish's life: the Catechumenate, the Stewardship of Time, Talent and Treasure, an endearing pastor and friend on whom we may rely for priestly ministry in all circumstances.
We welcome Fr Stuart and pray for his work and ministry among us, we pray blessings on the Parish of Holy Trinity, Covina and on our Diocese of Los Angeles. Your devoted Rector, Canon Ian Elliott Davies
