My sin murdered Him. And out of this self-loathing shame borne of the understanding that I could perpetrate such a heinous act, I am barely able to raise my head sufficiently to ask what crazed insanity would prompt Jesus to walk out of an empty tomb for the single purpose of pursuing a decaying soul that murdered Him? And I would be wise to consider that the question itself is asked only because I have yet to touch the barest periphery of God's love despite the fact that because of an empty tomb it stands right in front of me.

Welcome to The Thomist, St. Thomas the Apostle, Hollywood's award-winning eNewsletter.
Fr. Mark D. Stuart

Dear friends and parishioners,

stuartworshipStuartdamien-1 I am delighted to be able to announce that Fr Mark Stuart will be expanding his work and ministry here at St Thomas the Apostle, Hollywood. Fr Stuart, with generous enthusiasm and support from Bishop Bruno will become the Associate Priest of our parish from Sunday, 3rd July, 2016, our Patronal Feast of St Thomas the Apostle.

Fr Stuart has been a long-time friend and priest here at St Thomas and has been the catalyst for many of the developments in our parish's life: the Catechumenate, the Stewardship of Time, Talent and Treasure, an endearing pastor and friend on whom we may rely for priestly ministry in all circumstances.

We welcome Fr Stuart and pray for his work and ministry among us, we pray blessings on the Parish of Holy Trinity, Covina and on our Diocese of Los Angeles.

Your devoted Rector,
Canon Ian Elliott Davies
Heart for Africa

Recent Catechumens Hannah & Elizabeth Petrey will be requesting donations before and after the High Mass on Sunday for their upcoming July 2016 mission trip to Swaziland, Africa. With every $20.00 donation you will receive a handcrafted angel ornament accompanied by a picture and bio of the man who made the ornament. Hannah and Elizabeth's fundraising is part of their commitment to the organization Heart for Africa (www.heartforafrica.org) with the proceeds going towards their accommodations and Africa land transportation.  During their 10-day trip they will be working with abandoned babies and toddlers as well as performing community outreach. The girls will have a table set-up on the patio where you can make your cash on check donation.  If paying by check, make payable to Heart for Africa.

Loyola Marymount Workshop:
"American Muslism: Separating Fact from Fiction"
with Dr. Amir Hussain

A 2014 poll by the Pew Forum found that over 60% of Americans don't know a Muslim. As a result, it's no surprise that there is a lot of misinformation about American Muslims. Professor Amir Hussain, a Muslim scholar of Islam who teaches at LMU, the Jesuit university in Los Angeles, will talk about the realities of American Muslim life. Come and join him in this conversation tomorrow (30 April) at 12:30pm. Registration is $25 per person.

Amir Hussain, Ph.D. is Professor of Theological Studies at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where he teaches courses on world religions. His own particular specialty is the study of Islam, focusing on contemporary Muslim societies in North America. For 2011 to 2015, Dr. Hussain is the editor of the Journal of the American Academy of Religion, the premier scholarly journal for the study of religion. He is the author of Oil and Water: Two Faiths, One God.
