Christian History

On this day in 1548 Parliament ordered the publication of the Book of Common Prayer (BCP). Though Thomas Cranmer is rightly credited with the final form of the BCP, he worked with a committee of scholars, including Reformer Martin Bucer, to shape his famous liturgy.

It is the case of the Sacrament right. There is place in the taking of it, for noli Me tangere ("touch me not" Christ to St. Mary Magdalene); so is there for affer manum ("reach out" Christ to St. Thomas the Apostle). To them who with St. Thomas, in a feeling of the defect of their faith, or of any other spiritual grace, cast themselves down and cry, 'My Lord, and my God,' affer manum to them; I set them free, I give them a discharge from this noli Me tangere. But for them who are but a Rabboni, and scarce so far, bold guests with Him: base in conceit, and homely in behaviour; to them, and to them properly belongs this noli Me tangere, more properly than ever it did to [St. Mary Magdalene]. And so that point reconciled.

Welcome to The Thomist, St. Thomas the Apostle, Hollywood's award-winning eNewsletter.

The "Let's Talk About" series, an adult education series sponsored by Stewardship of Faith & Knowledge, begins this year with an interesting course called "The God We Know" which will be covering the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim perspectives of God. The first session begins on 3 April with Canon Ian Elliott Davies discussing the Christian perspective. The course continues on 17 April with Mr. Jihad Turk, President of Bayan Claremont School of Theology with a presentation on the Muslim perspective, and on 1 May a guest speaker TDB will be discussing the Jewish perspective. All sessions begin in the Large Parish Hall after the High Mass. All Parishioners and their friends are very welcome to attend.
