Lenten practices of giving up pleasures are good reminders that the purpose of life is not pleasure. The purpose of life is to attain to perfect life, all truth and undying ecstatic love - which is the definition of God. In pursuing that goal we find happiness. Pleasure is not the purpose of anything; pleasure is a by-product resulting from doing something that is good. One of the best ways to get happiness and pleasure out of life is to ask ourselves, "How can I please God?" and "Why am I not better?" It is the pleasure-seeker who is bored, for all pleasures diminish with repetition.

St. Thomas Concert Series

Saturday, 20 February
7:30pm

The St. Thomas Concert Series presents The Clarion Singers for a sublime evening of music. Guest conductor Stephen Salts leads the first half in a program of early through contemporary pieces, featuring works by Victoria, Tomkins, Harris and Runestad. The second half of the program focuses on works by composer J. Aaron McDermid, and we are thrilled that Mr. McDermid will be present to conduct them himself. There is no admission charge, but a freewill offering will be taken to support Clarion's 2016 Canterbury residency.

If you missed the first concert of the 2016 St. Thomas Concert Series last month, fear not: an excerpt from a live recording of Bach's Fugue in C Minor is featured in the video below:

"Could ye not watch with me one hour?"
