St. Thomas the Apostle is an Episcopal Parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. We are called by God to be a holy place where love is found, where all are named and where hearts are freed to change the world.
St. Thomas has a great respect for both the rich liturgical heritage of the church and for living the message of social justice proclaimed by Jesus Christ. Whether you are young or old, gay or straight, single, married or in a relationship, female or male, poor or wealthy, you are welcome at St. Thomas just as you are...a child of God and an inheritor of God's grace. |

St. Thomas Concert Series
We are delighted to announce that St. Thomas the Apostle, Hollywood, will present four enchanting concerts of alluring music as part of our first Concert Series in the 2014-2015 season. The entire season will be announced very soon, but please mark your calendars for the inaugural concert, set to take place on Sunday, 12 October at 7:00pm: Chansons of the 14th and 15th Centuries. Stacey Helley's Favolare Project presents an evening of early music, featuring settings of courtly lyrics of longing by Dufay, Binchois, Busnois and other priest-composers. The program also features popular melodies of the Ars Nova and Ars Subilitor, which were the hit tunes of their day. These melodies were quite well-known and often later repackaged as sacred when incorporated into Mass settings. An assortment of voices and early music instruments, including the St. Thomas Memorial Organ, will delight and enthrall in the beautiful setting of St. Thomas the Apostle Church. While all concerts in the series are free, voluntary donations are accepted at the door to benefit the parish and its music program. Please send inquiries to our Organist/Choirmaster, Jeffrey Parola,.

Organ Project Update
September 2014
For more than one year now, organ builder Weston Harris has been feverishly working to renovate and complete the St. Thomas Memorial Organ. Weston has made significant progress during the first year of this three year project. And, thanks to the inspiring generosity of those who pledged to the St. Thomas Capital Campaign, we can now report that, ultimately, 100% of the $500,000 cost of the Organ Project will be funded either through the Capital Campaign or through funds the Parish receives each year that are specifically designated for special musical projects. Thank you to everyone who has supported this important project!
While much of Weston's initial work on the Memorial Organ has been behind-the-scenes, in the coming months, parishioners will begin to see and experience the fruits of Weston's labor. For instance:
* The west chamber (Swell Organ) will be premiered during the 2014 holiday season. This comprises approximately 26 sets of pipes, or about 1/3 of the entire St. Thomas Memorial Organ. This addition will be quite noticeable since the Swell Organ contains many vibrant tonal colors, such as a French Trumpet, two sets of viola strings, accompanimental ensemble voices, and brilliant clarions. When organist/choirmaster, Jeffrey Parola, plays the Swell Organ, he will use the 3rd keyboard on the console.
* The large rebuilt air blower that is required to power much of the Memorial Organ will be delivered within a few weeks. Weston Harris will then begin installing the blower, and making final preparations in the blower room.
* After the rebuilt blower and Swell Organ are installed, the next phase of the Organ Project will be designing and building the new organ cases at the front of the church. This portion of the project will begin in early 2015. One proposed design for the new organ cases is set forth below:
* A Rohr Schalmei set of "reed" pipes was recently donated to the Organ Project. This voice will become part of the Positiv Organ, which is visible in the west transept.
Once again, thank you to Weston and to all the supporters of the Capital Campaign and the St. Thomas Memorial Organ who have made this project possible. If you have any questions regarding the Organ Project, please see the Project Liaison, Randy Oglesby. Time permitting, Weston Harris has generously offered to give tours of the St. Thomas Memorial Organ to parishioners and to personally answer questions about the project. If you are interested in a tour, please also contact Randy Oglesby.
