St. Thomas the Apostle is an Episcopal Parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition.  We are called by God to be a holy place where love is found, where all are named and where hearts are freed to change the world.

St. Thomas has a great respect for both the rich liturgical heritage of the church and for living the message of social justice proclaimed by Jesus Christ. Whether you are young or old, gay or straight, single, married or in a relationship, female or male, poor or wealthy, you are welcome at St. Thomas just as you are...a child of God and an inheritor of God's grace.

Five Celebrations on One Sunday,
6 July

The Rt. Rev. J. Jon Bruno, Bishop Diocesan will be the preacher at the 10:30 High Mass to celebrate and commemorate: (a) the end of this phase of our very successful Capital Campaign; (b) Fr. Davies' Silver Jubilee; (c) the Patronal Feast of St. Thomas; and (d) Independence Day. That's only four celebrations. Do you know what the fifth and most important celebration is? (The answer is at the end of this article.) Bishop Bruno will also preach and celebrate at the 8:00 Mass.

As parishioners, we are participants in the unprecedented generosity to the Campaign for St. Thomas. We have claimed our heritage as a caring and generous parish. And we are building for the future. We have pledged over $560,000!

There is more to be done and more to be pledged. If you have not yet pledged or would like to increase your pledge, please consider doing so before our Celebration Sunday. We want to lift up to the Glory of God all the pledges we have received by then and bless them to the mission and ministry God has given us.

A reception will follow the 10:30 Mass and will be catered by Roberta Deen of Capers Catering. The fifth and most important celebration is the Mass.

The Guibord Center - A New Community Event Added to 2014 Schedule!

The Guibord Center Advisor Jihad Turk has graciously invited us to return to The Islamic Center of Southern California to once again experience "The Breaking of the Fast: If'tar". This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about Muslim fasting during the month of Ramadan, and to enter into conversation with one another about the meaning of fasting in your own faith tradition.

Our first If'tar event in 2012 was filmed and photographed and is available on our web site HERE. For many attendees the best parts of the conversation happened among the participants at each table, and in this case "you had to be there." And then there is the amazing hospitality provided by our hosts for the evening, The Islamic Center.

Take advantage of this special opportunity, bring a friend, and invite others to join us at this free event. You may RSVP HERE.

On This Day in
Christian History

On this day in 444 St. Cyril, patriarch of Alexandria and author of several writings on the dual natures of Christ, died. He opposed Nestorius, who supposedly taught there were two separate persons in the Incarnate Christ, one divine, and the other human. Historians doubt, however, whether or not Nestorius actually taught this. In any case, St. Cyril deposed Nestorius in 430.
