St. Thomas the Apostle is an Episcopal Parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition.  We are called by God to be a holy place where love is found, where all are named and where hearts are freed to change the world.

St. Thomas has a great respect for both the rich liturgical heritage of the church and for living the message of social justice proclaimed by Jesus Christ. Whether you are young or old, gay or straight, single, married or in a relationship, female or male, poor or wealthy, you are welcome at St. Thomas just as you are...a child of God and an inheritor of God's grace.

Ministry Fair

On Sunday, 15 June following the High Mass, the annual Ministry Fair will be held. Participants will be provided a small card, which will be marked as they visit each of the ministries represented. After the Fair, one card will be chosen at random, and its owner will be given a small gift for his or her participation.

New Icons

Michelle Waterloo has very cleverly crafted icons made from salvaged St. Thomas architectural details. These are available for a minimum donation of $125 per icon, but there are only four available. 100% of your donation will benefit the Capital Campaign. Please see Michelle if you would like to have one.

Evensong & Benediction

Please join us on Saturday, 21 June for our second Evensong and Benediction of the year, this one being for the solemnity of Corpus Christi and will be featuring the works of Victoria, Scarabelli, Morales, Thalben-Ball and others sung by the LASchola under the direction of Jay Tuttle, and accompanied by guest organist Paul Meier.

The Feast of Corpus Christi (Latin for Body of Christ), also known as Corpus Domini, is a liturgical solemnity celebrating the tradition and belief in the body and blood of Jesus Christ and his Real Presence in the Eucharist. It emphasizes the joy of the institution of the Eucharist, which was observed on Holy Thursday in the somber atmosphere of the nearness of Good Friday.

Evensong originates from the Monastic Hours and consists of the distinctive portions of the ancient Offices of Vespers and Compline. In Choral Evensong the Choir traditionally sings the appointed Psalm, the Canticles and Responses on behalf of the Congregation. Hymns are sung by the congregation. The musical setting can be simple or elaborate and can date from before the English Reformation to the present day.

Benediction is the liturgy of praise and worship focused on the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. The word 'Benediction' refers to the solemn blessing with the Eucharistic Host (contained in the precious monstrance) over the People.

All are welcome and a potluck reception will be held in the rectory garden after the service.
Generosity + Commitment = Transformation

While much of the Conversation about the Capital Campaign has been about the work that will be done with the money that is raised, others have also talked about the role of generosity in their lives and the commitment they have to St. Thomas the Apostle, Hollywood. That generosity and that commitment is transforming the life of this parish and our community!

Just think about how generous we are becoming. To date our Parish has made commitments to this campaign which total more than $540,000! That is an amazing about of pledging for our church. It reflects a transformative love of our ministry and worship. It is truly transformational generosity for it changes the person who is giving and the community we love.

If you have pledged to this campaign, congratulations and thank you! If you have not yet made a pledge, now is the time to pray about transformation in your life and pledge as generously as you can. Whatever you pledge will be a blessing to you and to St. Thomas. It will be received with deep gratitude and be put to good use.

You can make a pledge at the Capital Campaign table after church or by CLICKING HERE. Thank you.
Congratulations

The Guibord Center - A New Community Event Added to 2014 Schedule!

The Guibord Center Advisor Jihad Turk has graciously invited us to return to The Islamic Center of Southern California to once again experience "The Breaking of the Fast: If'tar". This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about Muslim fasting during the month of Ramadan, and to enter into conversation with one another about the meaning of fasting in your own faith tradition.

Our first If'tar event in 2012 was filmed and photographed and is available on our web site HERE. For many attendees the best parts of the conversation happened among the participants at each table, and in this case "you had to be there." And then there is the amazing hospitality provided by our hosts for the evening, The Islamic Center.

Take advantage of this special opportunity, bring a friend, and invite others to join us at this free event. You may RSVP HERE.
