St. Thomas the Apostle is an Episcopal Parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. We are called by God to be a holy place where love is found, where all are named and where hearts are freed to change the world.
St. Thomas has a great respect for both the rich liturgical heritage of the church and for living the message of social justice proclaimed by Jesus Christ. Whether you are young or old, gay or straight, single, married or in a relationship, female or male, poor or wealthy, you are welcome at St. Thomas just as you are...a child of God and an inheritor of God's grace. |

TOMORROW at 5pm LASchola Quartet to Sing Palestrina & Byrd at Latin Vigil Mass
The four-voice Missa lauda Sion is one of the relatively few parody masses in which Palestrina takes one of his own motets as the starting-point for a cyclic setting of the Mass Ordinary.
The motet Lauda Sion of 1563 is itself actually based on a plainsong melody by that name (a chant particular to the Festival of Corpus Christi). The Mass based on it is one of Palestrina's more compact settings, the usual five sections of the Mass text are all present--Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei--outlining relatively small musical structures and being filled with counterpoint of extreme and very enviable efficiency.
The LASchola is comprised of some of the best voices in sacred music in Los Angeles, ranging from quartets to large ensembles, under the direction of Jay Tuttle.
A wine and cheese reception will follow the service.
