St. Thomas the Apostle is an Episcopal Parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition.  We are called by God to be a holy place where love is found, where all are named and where hearts are freed to change the world.

St. Thomas has a great respect for both the rich liturgical heritage of the church and for living the message of social justice proclaimed by Jesus Christ. Whether you are young or old, gay or straight, single, married or in a relationship, female or male, poor or wealthy, you are welcome at St. Thomas just as you are...a child of God and an inheritor of God's grace.

Lenten Study Course

On Wednesdays during Lent, following the 7pm Mass, the Lenten Series course will be offered. This year's Lenten Study is following Love Songs & Reproaches: Passionate Conversations with God by William Countryman. A limited number of books will be available for sale in the office for $16 per book; one may also find this book on his own. Each week a Parishioner pre-selected by the Rector will lead in a theological, spiritual and literary discussion of several of Countryman's 100 poems. About the book: Countryman grapples with the reality of evil and loss, as well as hope for fulfillment of life. The author takes liberties with the scriptures in order to explore them with new seriousness and argues with both God and scripture freely in the process.
Evensong & Benediction

Jeffrey Parola, Organist

Evensong originates from the Monastic Hours and consists of the distinctive portions of the ancient Offices of Vespers and Compline. In Choral Evensong the Choir traditionally sings the appointed Psalm, the Canticles and Responses on behalf of the Congregation. The musical setting can be simple or elaborate and can date from before the English Reformation to the present day.

Benediction is the liturgy of praise and worship focused on the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. The word 'Benediction' refers to the solemn blessing with the Eucharistic Host (contained in the precious monstrance) over the People.
Jay Tuttle,
LASchola Director

Our Solemn Evensong and Benediction on March 22, 2014 at 5:00PM takes place in Lent. Lent is the penitential period of forty days that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at Easter. Some Christians observe Lent with various forms of fasting and penitence: fasting to exercise restraint and grow in spirit; penitence to remind us of our humanity and our weakness. Our need to humbly take stock of ourselves and become closer to our neighbours and to God is the expectation here.

On This Day in
Christian History

On this day in 1556, after denying earlier forced recantations, Archbishop of Canterbury Bl. Thomas Cranmer, a crucial figure in the English Reformation and author of the Book of Common Prayer, was burned at the stake by Queen Mary. He reportedly thrust his arm into the flames saying that the hand that had signed the recantations should be the first to burn.

This evening we'll commemorate Bl. Thomas Cranmer with a Mass at 7pm.
