St. Thomas the Apostle is an Episcopal Parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. We are called by God to be a holy place where love is found, where all are named and where hearts are freed to change the world.
St. Thomas has a great respect for both the rich liturgical heritage of the church and for living the message of social justice proclaimed by Jesus Christ. Whether you are young or old, gay or straight, single, married or in a relationship, female or male, poor or wealthy, you are welcome at St. Thomas just as you are...a child of God and an inheritor of God's grace. |

Sock Sunday
16 February is Sock Sunday! County USC Hospital is the only source of medical treatment for countless homeless and indigent residents of Los Angeles. Many of these patients have horrible foot infections or trench immersion foot. While the physicians and nurses attempt to treat these problems, it becomes of little value when the patient leaves the hospital wearing wet broken shoes with no clean socks.
To combat this problem, many years ago a number of Episcopal Churches instituted periodic Sock Sundays. On Sock Sunday, Parishioners are encouraged to bring new, white, cotton socks to be donated to County USC. With these donations, patients receive two new paris of socks - one to wear and one to carry for later use.
On 16 February, please bring new, white cotton socks in their wrappers to Church. Socks should be adult size and the longer length socks are preferred over the shorter socks. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Kathryn Challoner.

On This Day in
Christian History
On this day in 1686 King Louis XIV of France, having already revoked the Protestant-tolerating Edict of Nantes, orders all Waldensian churches burned. The Waldensians, members of a pre-Reformation tradition that stressed love of Christ and his word and a life of poverty, were soon devastated: 2,000 killed, 2,000 "converted" to Catholicism, and 8,000 imprisoned.
