St. Thomas the Apostle is an Episcopal Parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. We are called by God to be a holy place where love is found, where all are named and where hearts are freed to change the world.
St. Thomas has a great respect for both the rich liturgical heritage of the church and for living the message of social justice proclaimed by Jesus Christ. Whether you are young or old, gay or straight, single, married or in a relationship, female or male, poor or wealthy, you are welcome at St. Thomas just as you are...a child of God and an inheritor of God's grace. |

LASchola Returns to the Latin Vigil Mass on 28 September
The LASchola accompanies the Saturday 5pm Latin Vigil Mass on the fourth Saturday of each month. This month, the LASchola will sing Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina's Missa Aeterna Christi munera a4.
Following the Mass a reception will take place. Wine will be served. Donations will be accepted at the reception to help fund future LASchola events.
Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (c.1525-1594) was an Italian Renaissance composer of sacred music and the best-known 16th-century representative of the Roman School of musical composition. He has had a lasting influence on the development of church music, and his work has often been seen as the culmination of Renaissance polyphony
LASchola's voices create a most beautiful and soulful accompaniment to the monthly Vigil mass in St. Thomas the Apostle's century-old neo-gothic church. Hear rarely sung early choral music performed in the liturgical setting for which it was originally composed - the liturgy. LASchola is a local a cappella ensemble comprised of professional musicians.
All are invited.

Stewardship Meditation
I Will Choose to Trust in the Abundance of God
Through faith it is possible to move from the notion of abject neediness and an expanding list of necessities to trust in the abundance of God. This is a healthy and necessary step in our spiritual journeys
The story of the Prodigal Son (St. Luke 15:11-32) portrays a young man who grew up with apparent abundance and then experienced abject neediness. It was at this time he realized that mere survival was not enough. He remembered his father's abundance and realized even his father's workers "have bread enough and to spare." He felt lonely and unappreciated; he decided to return home where he knew there was love.
God is not a Creator of scarcity, but a provider of blessings and opportunity. The abundance of God includes both material and spiritual blessings that provide for our needs. It is through faith that each person learns to trust God and realize the times when that trust has brought both direction and strength.
Prayer: O God of abundance, remind me always that there are no limits to Your love. Empower me to grow in faith and trust that You will provide all that is necessary, not only to survive, but to thrive. Amen.

We thank the 33 households (Ralph's no longer releases the names due to privacy) who shopped at Ralph's between 1 June and 31 August and registered their rewards card to support St. Thomas. This quarter's contribution of $178.02 makes the total contributed by Ralph's since October 2007 to be $4,181.49! Every time these Parishioners use their Ralph's card during checkout, the company contributes a percentage to teh church (NOTE: You must use a physical card; entering your phone number at checkout does NOT benefit the Parish). If you shop at Ralph's and would like to help the church at no cost to you, simply register your card: - Go to www.ralphs.com,
- sign in (or sign up if it's your first time),
- click on "My Account" and then "Account Settings."
- Under "Community Rewards" click "Edit"
- search for Saint Thomas the Apostle (or search for "84981" without quotes).
Thanks for shopping at Ralph's for St. Thomas! |
