Greetings!

St. Thomas the Apostle is an Episcopal Parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition.  We are called by God to be a holy place where love is found, where all are named and where hearts are freed to change the world.

St. Thomas has a great respect for both the rich liturgical heritage of the church and for living the message of social justice proclaimed by Jesus Christ. Whether you are young or old, gay or straight, single, married or in a relationship, female or male, poor or wealthy, you are welcome at St. Thomas just as you are...a child of God and an inheritor of God's grace.

Marriages and Celebrations

After meeting in 1963, and with an assist by the U.S. Supreme Court, long-time Parishioners Vince Mazzucchelli and John Thornbury have finally tied the knot in a civil ceremony in West Hollywood on 11 July 2013. Vince and John will also be celebrating their 50 years together at St. Thomas after the High Mass on Sunday. The event will be catered by a good friend of the Parish, Roberta Deen of Capers Catering. All are welcome!

A Note from Janis & John Davies

We wish to express a huge appreciation of thanks to our wonderful St. Thomas family for all their extremely kind cards and messages on the occasion of our Golden Wedding Anniversary and Janis' special birthday. We have been quite overwhelmed by the many good wishes. Many, many thanks!
Catechism Class Forming

Interested in becoming a member of St. Thomas, or in reinvigorating your knowledge of our faith and worship? It's time to start thinking about joining this year's Catechumen Class. This course, which meets every Saturday, beginning after Labor Day and running right up to the Great Easter Vigil, is required for anyone who wishes to be Baptized, Confirmed, or Received into the Parish Church. It's also open to current Parishioners who are interested in learning more and Reaffirming their commitment to Christ. Interested parties should contact the Parish Office to schedule a meeting with Fr. Davies some time in the coming weeks.

Hollywood Vedanta Temple
The Guibord Center's Sacred Texts 101 Series continues with
The Upanishads. This special program will take place at the Hollywood Vedanta Temple as guests of the Vedanta Society of Southern California.

"Vedanta is one of the world's most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions. Vedanta is the philosophical foundation of Hinduism; but while Hinduism includes aspects of Indian culture, Vedanta is universal in its application and is equally relevant to all countries, all cultures, and all religious backgrounds."

This event will begin at 1:30pm with a vegetarian lunch, followed by the program led by Swami Sarvadevananda. Your RSVP includes lunch and the program.

Parish Choir

We thank the Parish Choir for a wonderful year of service culminating with the very successful "Family Follies," the proceeds of which benefit the Choir's annual retreat in September.

The choir is now on a much-deserved, two-month hiatus.

We look forward to September when the choir returns to the High Mass.
On This Day in
Christian History

On this day in 1692, Puritan magistrates convicted and hanged five women for witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts. By September, 20 people had been executed on charges brought by 15 young girls.
