Greetings!
St. Thomas the Apostle is an Episcopal Parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. We are called by God to be a holy place where love is found, where all are named and where hearts are freed to change the world.
St. Thomas has a great respect for both the rich liturgical heritage of the church and for living the message of social justice proclaimed by Jesus Christ. Whether you are young or old, gay or straight, single, married or in a relationship, female or male, poor or wealthy, you are welcome at St. Thomas just as you are...a child of God and an inheritor of God's grace. |

Parish Choir
We thank the Parish Choir for a wonderful year of service culminating with the very successful "Family Follies," the proceeds of which benefit the Choir's annual retreat in September.
The choir is now on a much-deserved, two-month hiatus.
We look forward to September when the choir returns to the High Mass. |

Marriages and Celebrations
Chris Gable and Gerardo Vergara were the first members of St. Thomas to be married in our church following the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Perry v. Hollingsworth, which allowed same-sex marriages to recommence in California. Congratulations to Chris & Gerardo!
After meeting in 1963, and with an assist by the U.S. Supreme Court, long-time Parishioners Vince Mazzucchelli and John Thornbury have finally tied the knot in a civil ceremony in West Hollywood on 11 July 2013. Vince and John will also be celebrating their 50 years together at St. Thomas after the High Mass on 21 July 2013. The event will be catered by a good friend of the Parish, Roberta Deen of Capers Catering. All are welcome!

The Special Speakers Series at
The Guibord Center
"The Bible, Women and Violence"
presented by Dr. Amy-Jill Levine
Sunday, 14 July 2013
1:30pm
St. John's Pro-Cathedral
514 W. Adams St.
The Bible has been viewed as a misogynist text that treats women as property, sanctions their abuse, promotes their subordination, and proclaims the impossible standard of virgin mother.
How has the Bible been used to prevent women's flourishing, and how might a more historically informed and theologically aware reading recover the Bible as an inspirational resource for both women and men?
Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt University Divinity School and College of Arts and Sciences, combines historical-critical rigor, literary-critical sensitivity, and a frequent dash of humor with a commitment to eliminating anti-Jewish, sexist, and homophobic theologies.

On This Day in
Christian History
On this day in 1536, Desiderius Erasmus, Dutch scholar and the first editor of the Greek New Testament, died in Basel. One of the leading scholars of the Protestant Reformation, he also wrote the influential In Praise of Folly. "Most holy was his living," said one observer, "most holy his dying."
