Required ACA & Plan First Data Collection

The Office of Population Affairs (OPA), funder of Title X,  is requesting data on enrollment activities again for the 2014-2015 enrollment period to give us a snapshot of how Title X service sites are continuing to impact national enrollment efforts.

Reporting Period

OPA is requesting enrollment data from each service site for the period of April 1, 2014 through March 31, 2015.

Reporting Process

The data will be submitted online in a Survey Monkey and due to WMHS on Monday, April 20, 2015. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GNN58MG

Enrollment Data Collected

All enrollment activities that occur at a Title X service site should be reported, regardless of funding source. Each service site must submit a separate survey. This includes satellites. Each sub-recipient and satellite clinic must submit a separate survey per clinic.

April is STD Awareness Month
April is STD Awareness Month

April is STD Awareness Month. This is a great opportunity to normalize conversations about sexual health; promote STD prevention, screening and treatment; and raise public awareness about the consequences of untreated STDs. Each year, there are approximately 20 million new sexually transmitted infections in the US, which can cause many short and long-term health problems, costing the American healthcare system nearly $16 billion in direct medical costs. It is more important now than ever that Americans, both young and old, understand the importance of getting tested. Check out these various CDC resources to help promote STD Awareness Month to your networks. Also, check out the GYT: Get Yourself Tested website where there is a variety of clinic resources that will give patients all the information they need, from FAQs on STDs and HIV to the benefits of using condoms.

HPV Vaccine Recommendation Webinar

HPV Vaccine Recommendation Webinar

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is hosting a webinar on April 3rd from 11:00 AM (ET) on HPV vaccine recommendations. CDC's Dr. Lauri Markowitz will provide an update on HPV vaccine recommendations and a review of the HPV vaccine session at last month's meeting of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), when the ACIP voted on use of 9-valent HPV vaccine. CDC's Shannon Stokley will also be available to answer questions regarding programmatic implications, and CDC Health Communications Specialist Jill Roark will be on to respond to communications-related questions.

Differences in Contraceptive Use Among Women of Different Classes

Differences in Contraceptive Use Among Women of Different Classes

A new study concluded that poor women are five times as likely as affluent women to have an unintended birth. The study examined fertility outcomes of 3,885 single women who were not trying to get pregnant. Those with incomes below the poverty line were twice as likely to have unprotected sex as those with incomes four times the poverty line. The difference boils down to contraceptive use, not sexual activity. Limited access to sex education and contraceptives in poor communities widens the income-fertility gap. Equalizing birth control use could reduce the ratio of unintended births by half. The study was conducted by the Brookings Institution.

Social Influence on Risk Perception During Adolescence

Social Influence on Risk Perception During Adolescence

Adolescence is a period of life in which peer relationships become increasingly important. Adolescents have a greater likelihood of taking risks when they are with peers rather than alone. In this study, we investigated the development of social influence on risk perception from late childhood through adulthood. Five hundred and sixty-three participants rated the riskiness of everyday situations and were then informed about the ratings of a social-influence group(teenagers or adults) before rating each situation again. All age groups showed a significant social-influence effect, changing their risk ratings in the direction of the provided ratings; this social-influence effect decreased with age. Most age groups adjusted their ratings more to conform to the ratings of the adult social-influence group than to the ratings of the teenager social-influence group. Only young adolescents were more strongly influenced by the teenager social-influence group than they were by the adult social-influence group, which suggests that to early adolescents, the opinions of other teenagers about risk matter more than the opinions of adults.

Public Health Reports Webinar-Progress in Women's Health: 1985 - 2015

April 7th, 2015 | 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. ET

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the landmark 1985 U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Report of the Public Health Service Task Force on Women's Health Issues. A deliberate focus on women's health, which continues today, has led to substantial advances in the field. This webinar features federal government leaders in women's health discussing both achievements from the past and challenges for the future. The presenters will describe progress in women's reproductive health, understanding of sex differences in medicine, and the inclusion of women in clinical research. The ultimate goal is a nation where women can prevent morbidity and mortality from disease and where quality care and health equity are a reality for all women.
