Want a chance to win
a party invitation?

Simply re-register by the on-time deadline of Monday, September 30 for a chance to attend an invitation-only birthday party for Juliette Gordon Low hosted by CEO Rose González Pérez!

 

Contest Rules:

  • Individual registrations must include one girl and one adult registration.
  • Troop registrations must include at least five Girl Scout and
    two adult registrations.
  • ONLY re-registering girls and/or troops will be included in prize drawing.
  • Re-registrations MUST be received by 7:30 p.m., Monday, September 30.
  • Drawing will take place on Tuesday, October 1 and winners will be notified no later than end of day Wednesday, October 2.
  • Birthday party will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, October 18 at the Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center and is strictly by invitation only.

The Volunteer Service Center at the Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center will remain open until 7:30 p.m., Monday, September 30 for your convenience!

2013 Fall Product Sale is here!  

Girls begin taking orders for the fall product sale today! Are you interested in earning fast start-up funds and having girls participate in Girl Scout Leadership Experience activities? The fall product sale is a quick "friends and family" sale that runs now until October 13 when orders are submitted.

It's not too late to sign up to participate! Questions? Contact the product sales staff.
Girl Power! exhibit -- last weekend!!

The Institute of Texan Cultures, in partnership with GSSWT, presents Girl Power!, an exhibition heralding the next century of Girl Scouting. Visit ITC's website for hours and admission. 

 

This exhibit will close on Sunday, September 29. Come experience the enduring values and traditions of this iconic organization as told through personal stories, photographs, artifacts and memorabilia before its gone!
Sleepovers, Monsters, 5K and more ...
choose one or choose them all! 

Nature Explorers -- Juniors 

6:30 p.m., Friday, October 11-9:30 a.m., Saturday, October 12 (Kerrville) -- open to girls in grades 4-5 

Travel to the beautiful Riverside Nature Center (RNC) located on the banks of the Guadalupe River in Kerrville for an exciting evening of outdoor exploration! Activities include taking a night hike along the river, using the tools of a scientist, making a craft and learning lots about nature and wildlife! Get the details and registration packet here.

 

Monster Mash

6:30-8:30 p.m., Friday, October 25 -- open to girls in grades K-5

It's now the mash, it's now the monster mash. Goblins and ghouls, mummies and vampires come to the witch's lair where you will learn how to make magic potions and spells. Make Halloween decorations and play games. Get the details and registration packet here. 

 

Thin Mint Sprint

6:30-8:30 p.m., Saturday, November 2 -- open to girls in grades K-12 and their families

Challenge yourself to sign up for this fun 5K walk/run! What an easy way to get healthy before the holiday eating begins -- no equipment needed! Connect with your friends to test your endurance and celebrate with a healthy snack when you reach the finish line. Get the details and registration packet here.

 

I Am a Princess

6:30-8:30 p.m., Friday, November 8 -- open to girls in grades K-5

Wow! A glass slipper. Who could it belong to? Is it yours? Delight your imagination and be royalty for a day. Make your own tiara, wave your wand and poof, let's have some fun! Show who you are, become confident and have positive self-esteem. Join the enchantment of the magical place and be your own princess in your own fairy tale. Did your girls miss the first Super Sleuths program?

That's ok! Girls are able to attend any of the dates -- the more the better! Simply register with the Volunteer Service Center before the next program date of Tuesday, October 8.

Calling all aspiring artists! 

If you like to draw and be creative, this is an opportunity for you!

 

GSSWT is in need of an image to put on the front of a holiday card for the winter season. We plan to send this card to donors and other community members to thank them for their support of Girl Scouts. Here are the requirements:

  1. Don't be afraid to use color. 
  2. Must either be in a high-resolution JPEG format (created with Photoshop, MS Paint or other image editing software) OR original artwork on 8˝ x11" paper can be dropped off at the Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center (811 N. Coker Loop, San Antonio, 78216).
  3. Cannot depict a Christmas tree, stockings or any other religiously themed items (must be a generic, winter-themed card) OR must depict all religiously oriented holidays (Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, etc). Snowmen and gifts are acceptable on non-denominational cards.
  4. Must be emailed to Brooke Johnson OR dropped off no later than 5 p.m., Monday, October 16. If you need to mail your creation (must be received by Oct.16 to be considered), please send it to
    Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas, Attn: Brooke Johnson, 811 N. Coker Loop, San Antonio, TX 78216.

All submissions will be showcased at the Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center and the West Side Girl Scout Leadership Center.  

The winning design will also be showcased as the council's Facebook cover photo for the month of December.

Don't miss The Great Escape -- Adult Weekend!

Adult weekend is back with a new exciting format that is sure to have something for everyone. This weekend will be where Leadership Lounge meets Trainers' Gathering and more. There will be traditional training, new fun enrichment classes, the great outdoors and, of course, just plain fun with friends. So save the date -- Friday, November 15 to Sunday, November 17 at Camp La Jita in Utopia -- and look for more details in the coming weeks! I can't wait to ... see you there!

Shopping for a cause is a wonderful thing, and Impact San Antonio is going to make it even better!

 

A special reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2 at Nancy's Boutique (280 East Basse, Suite 109 in the Quarry Village). Expect fun with friends, great new styles to enhance your fall wardrobe and a warm sense of satisfaction because 20 percent of all purchases will benefit Impact San Antonio.

Wurzbach Parkway Progress

Keep an eye out for heavy equipment transportation in our area as construction on the Wurzbach Parkway extension continues to progress. Construction on Wurzbach Parkway is scheduled for completion in 2015.
