Camp is a place where a girl can make new friends, explore the world around her and learn that "I can" is much more powerful than "I can't." It's a place where transformation happens. In an environment created just for her, a girl learns real life skills, develops self-esteem and gains a sense of independence and community. Camp gives girls the chance to let their curiosity run free and spark their imagination! Ready to send your girl?!

- Empower the CEO in You @ Camp Metro Day Camp @ West Side Girl Scout Leadership Center For girls entering grades K-12, a week-long session where girls will shine while celebrating all that makes them a great leader in their community! (Note: Free transportation from Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center and before/after care at an additional $25/girl) June 17-21, get all the details here. - Sports & S'more @ Camp La Jita Day Camp in Utopia For girls entering grades K-12, a week-long session where girls can explore all things sports with a bit of tradition mixed in! June 17-21, get all the details here.
- Green Thumbs Up @ Camp Mira Sol Day Camp in Waring For girls entering grades K-12, a week-long session where girls will get hands-on fun in the dirt planting and gardening! (Note: FREE transportation from Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center in San Antonio and Riverside Nature Center in Kerrville and before/after care at an additional $25/girl) June 17-21, get all the details here.
- Rollin' Utopia @ Camp La Jita Resident Camp in Utopia For girls entering grades 4-6, an athletic session where girls will explore camp on two wheels! (Note: transportation available Friday afternoon to transport campers and their gear from Camp La Jita to the Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center at an additional $20/girl) June 16-21, get all the details here.

Make an IMPACT -- registration deadline extended to Tuesday, June 4

Join us for IMPACT Day 2013 on Friday, June 7 at the West Side Girl Scout Leadership Center (5622 W. César E. Chávez Blvd., San Antonio, 78237) in partnership with Deloitte, a worldwide network of audit, consulting, financial advisory, risk management and tax professionals. This is an annual celebration of Deloitte's commitment to community involvement when employees across the country are encouraged to set aside their work for the day to contribute their time and talent to benefit local nonprofits.
Local Deloitte employees will hold a day of service and program, including two workshops and a beautification project. All girls and families are invited to this FREE first-ever event! Get more details and the registration form here. Registrations are due Tuesday, June 4.

Then you should plan to volunteer at the Girl Scout booth at the 42nd Texas Folklife Festival, a three-day celebration (June 7-9) of the state's multicultural heritage to include music, dance, food, fun and crafts.
Girl Scouts will again participate in this year's event and will host an activity booth in the kid's area on the festival grounds and we need your help.
Volunteers working the booth receive free admission for all three days of the festival. Troops with girls ages 12 and older, individual adults and alumnae are all welcome to volunteer. The Girl Scout booth will be open:
- 5-9 p.m., Friday, June 7
- 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday , June 8 and
- 12-5 p.m., Sunday, June 9
Volunteers will need to work a minimum of two three-hour shifts (Friday, total of four hours). Interested? Complete this form and return to Arelí Acosta. Questions? Contact Arelí (210-349-2404/1-800-580-7247 ext. 235). It promises to be the experience of a lifetime!.

FREE Teen Driver Safety Course -- June 8 or 9
|
|
Toyota Driving Expectations is a FREE hands-on, 2.5 hour driving course taught by professional facilitators and drivers. The curriculum for Toyota Driving Expectations -- On The Road program was developed in partnership with multiple organizations committed to safe driving, including the National Safety Council and the Defensive Driving Academy in California. The program is designed for teens and parents alike and will be held at the Toyota Plant on June 8 or 9 -- register now!

GSI -- Girl Scout Investigation Twilight Camp, June 17-21

Early Bird registration gives current Girl Scouts and troops/groups the opportunity to register early for the upcoming Girl Scout year (October 2013 through September 2014) before the fall rush! Re-register today!
Please note that dues have increased to $15/member, $195/graduating girl lifetime membership dues and $375/lifetime membership dues.

Summer is coming and troops that have not attended the new Money Manager course may have questions about completing the summer finance report. We are here to help. The finance report is now an excel spreadsheet and available on GSSWT's website. Looking for complete details? Get 'em here!

Have you visited Girl Power? | |
The Institute of Texan Cultures, in partnership with GSSWT, presents Girl Power!, an exhibition heralding the next century of Girl Scouting. Visit ITC's website for hours and admission.
Come experience the enduring values and traditions of this iconic organization as told through personal stories, photographs, artifacts and memorabilia. The exhibit will be on display through July 14.

Wurzbach Parkway Progress |

Keep an eye out for heavy equipment transportation in our area as construction on the Wurzbach Parkway extension continues to progress. Construction on Wurzbach Parkway is scheduled for completion in 2015.
